hi, this list is set up to reply to all~if you wish to reply privatly you should be able to retrieve the senders email address by hitting reply and then clicking just on their address, as yours is shown below, otherwise it goes list wide. HOWEVER, i encouage people to reply listwide, as i have learned alot this way and made connections also, when we get off the private conversation bandwagon. never know when a connection can be made. to those who care about my broken legs, left is ok, right is bad, no feeling, feels like i have a dead trout i am carrying along, ugh. jill ---------- : From: [email protected] : To: [email protected] : Subject: [HAMRICK-L] Apologies : Date: Saturday, August 01, 1998 12:41 PM : : Apologies that my message to Bev showed up on the Hamrick list. What a kind message Dan, Genealogy is just simply the best! It's funny, since I got hurt I had a number of substantial Hamrick breakthrus, which I doubt would of occured if I had gone to the mainland last month, sort of funny. Speaking of old homesites -- I have heard that the Street Hamrick land in Cleveland Co. NC is for sale but the family is going to preserve the old house and a few acres around it for reunions, etc. I saw in the paper that the Hamrick reunion is the last week in August. It said the 24th, but I think that is a misprint. Beverly Barnes Shelby, NC

I'll 2nd that. What are we doing?? Discussing "porn"? or trying to gather information or our "roots" ??? Harley
I am looking for information on SABRA ANN HAMBRICK who was born December 10, 1840 and died March 3, 1930 in Mont. County, MS. She was married to Aaron David McClellan and they had 11 children. Thanks! Carolyn Tidwell [email protected]
Well gang, more cool news, genealogy is fun again. California Hamrick info~ I just talked with the gentleman who owns the old Hamrick property off Ridge Road, and he tells me he will take us to exactly where the old Hamrick Toll Road is/was where Jesse used to collect a toll from the wagons that would travel across his property.......and get this.......there are still old wagon ruts in the road, which is wonderful news. If you have studied anything about the migration west during the gold rush you know how important wagon ruts are from an historical point of view, and well they are there, on private property and we get to go see them. He also has the original homestead deed signed by President Grover Cleveland that Elizabeth Hamrick filed in 1886, and the other subsequent deeds that transfered the property to Henry and then to his family, I have asked him for photocopies, I hope he will share them. In addition he told me what happened to the old house, in 1941 it was scooted back off its foundation to where the 3 locust trees which the Hamrick's planted still are, big huge trees, then they poured a new foundation cause the Hamrick foundation was rock, and they built their home, eventually the Hamrick house was bull dozed and 2 of the old doors from the Hamrick house were used in the Aparicio house, one in the basement and is still there, the other i don't know. Also the hydrangeas were kept and are still there from Hamrick days, in the front of the house. I'm feeling good, my legs are free now, i'm trying to walk and I think things are really looking up, so much has happened. laters, Jill ~aloha~ from jill in maui http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/genweb.htm
On the non-gen subject of disgusting spam (unsolicited, offensive email) all the open rootsweb lists have been periodically hit with spam, when that happens some people chose to contact authority's to complain, I am not sure how tho. Many websites exist about how to complain re spammers and get them kicked off their servers. One should never respond to spam, they then will totally deluge you. I always delete. Bev, Since you have Shelby.net now you might want to download the NETSCAPE program for your children to get their e-mail. I never get any porno there, or sales pitches unless it's from a software company I've allowed to send me info. That is the best reason for having 2 e-mail addresses. I use judytalk for personal stuff & JProctor1 for all these lists. If I see a message that doesn't identify itself as being from the list I delete it. Problem is with some of this SPAM if you open it & try sending the remove message, you just get more as you become a target. Also, I think on AOL you can stop all e-mail to a screen name. I think I'd do that with the children. Also, be sure they haven't completed the profile on AOL. I used to get all kinds of strange messages before I deleted my profile. NetScape has a freebie download (no technical support) or pay for it (get technical support) http://www.netscape.com/download/download_instructions.html Just some suggestions, hope it helps. Judy
To those that have been interested in the Hamrick get together, I have been planning a surprise and found out today it will actually happen for our reunion. For the Sunday program at Detert Park, our picnic will now be visited by some actual living history re-enactors, the Gold Rush Living History Alliance is going to have 2 costumed gold miners come to the park to show their authentic clothing, tools, and even demonstrate cradle gold mining in the Park, using a real trough! All exactingly authentic too. I found the group on the internet and asked if they would come see us and they said YES! We will certainly feed them lunch after and give them cool drinks throughout the demo time. By the way, everyone should make sure we have plenty of coolers and cool drinks for this weekend. Anyway! Surprise! These folks are the real deal, they are doing demostrations all over California for the Sesquicentennial that is happening now for donations and they generously and graciously have agreed to come show us their authentic historical artifacts and so on, they are expected at 10:30 am on Sunday, for a one hour display and then we will eat lunch, if it gets too hot we should plan to leave early that day or hit the pool. I think this is going to add a nice touch to our weekend, our ancestor we all have in common is Jesse Calvert Hamrick who came to California in 1850 and was in fact a gold miner for awhile, so this demo is certainly pertinent and here is the Alliance website address so you can see for yourself, if anyone has seen them in action can you write back to me and tell me about it? Thanks. http://www.timeship.com/ then click on Gold Rush History Alliance for their websites Jill <3 ~aloha~ from jill in maui http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/genweb.htm
I AGREE DELETE THE AOL SERVICE! That's what I ended up doing after having it for years. Also the porn messages---they trick you into opening them by putting something like "RE: in reply to your mail" making you think it is something you requested or other things making you think it's from someone you know. I wrote Steve Case a hundred letters plus sent them to the SPAM alert constantly and still couldn't get rid of the porn and advertisements. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, July 29, 1998 7:24 PM Subject: Re: Re: [HAMRICK-L] Trouble with AOL >I don't use chat rooms either, but I always have porn email waiting when I >sign on. > >The delete button is only helpful if you delete the message BEFORE you open >the mail. Hi!, I personally think AOL in some way is profiting from the porn on their server. Otherwise they would have an effective way to block it. I have service on other server's and about once a month I see a porn message. Instead of deleting the messages, delete the service. That is what I did. There is plenty of genealogy on the Internet without using AOL. J R

Once you get enough, you can tell what they are before you open them. This is very poor topic anyway. Let's get back to Ham(b)ricks! If erotic e-mail is the biggest problem we have, then we are all lucky. Tressie
I don't use chat rooms either, but I always have porn email waiting when I sign on. The delete button is only helpful if you delete the message BEFORE you open the mail. Once you open it, you'll get put on another list, and the are getting more sneaky by the day to get us to open that mail!
