My Hampsons:-James Hampson married Hannah Jackson in Trinity Church Coventry 1804 and at that time James was an umbrella maker but was later a bookkeeper. He was born about 1792. Soon after getting married they moved to Manchester in 1809 and his son, James George Hampson, ran a fruit shop in Eccles. I do have a strange photo which may or may not be related to the American Civil War? It is of a group of seven persons standing in front of Beaumaris Castle in Anglesea North Wales. On enlarging the photo it looks like one is wearing a large hat with crossed swords like the American Civil War hat. There is also another with possibly a turban! This photo was about 1880 I think. There were relatives who said that the Hampsons were supposed to be related to an earl and I have a photo of a coat of arms of a baron that a great aunt has but I have not been able to trace the arms (as yet). Any connections? I can send you the photo/arms if anyone is interested!
