    1. [HAMPSON] Hampson Civil War Vet
    2. Listers: I have a photo of Eli Hampson labeled Civil War Vet from Yonkers, NY, USA. He is noted as my grandmother's oldest brother, but he could have been her uncle since she was born after the Civil War. If anyone has any information on Eli or my grandmother, Laura Augusta Hampson (presumably from Tarrytown, NY), I'd appreciate hearing from you. Bob Telford, Long Beach, CA USA

    3. The Hampson comes from NW England probably from Cheshire. During the industrial Revolution many moved to Lancashire but Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwick and London had sizeable populations of Hampsons by the midnineteenth century. At the time of the 1881 census about 35 per cent lived outside Lancashire. I have no information directly relating to Eli but it might be worthwhile checking immigration records and shipping lists. If he was born in England I may be able to help. 3. Now that's great info, thanks. I can't find my Hampson's before 1845 in Lancs. Now I know why, but oh my, going back seems an impossible task. regards, Joyce Stevens Livonia, MI, USA -----Original Message----- From: Ralph Hampson [mailto:debolbec@bigpond.net.au] Sent: Saturday, November 03, 2001 9:02 PM To: HAMPSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HAMPSON] Hampson Civil War Vet The Hampson comes from NW England probably from Cheshire.
