Anne: I have the unique problem of trying to trace Hampsons in America. It's not an unknown name since one of the world's greatest baritones is the American Thomas Hampson. However, I'm trying to track my grandmother, Laura Augusta Hampson who lived in Tarrytown, NY. She was born June 28, 1865 and married my grandfather, George Stainton Telford (a Cumbrian) in NY on Feb 18, 1890. She died in NYC on Feb 17, 1906 and is buried in Kensico Cemetery in NY State. I know she had an uncle who served in the Civil War and was imprisoned in Richmond, VA. and that she had a sister named Francine who married Apsley Boulding and quite possibly 6 or 8 other siblings. However, I can't find any information on her parents or when they or their ancestors came over from England. Can anyone help? Robert Sheldon Telford, Long Beach, CA
