It may be nonsense, and worthy only of filing under 'straws, clutching at', but I thought I'd run it past you. It's frustrating that Jonathan's birth doesn't appear in the IGI, when Stretford PRs seem to have been included (yes, he could have been a methodist, but bear with me). Then I remembered Jonathan Hampson's marriage entry in the parish registers, and how it said 'John' before being altered to 'Jonathan', so I checked on Family Search for a John Hampson born in Stretford in around 1806. And lo and behold! A John, born in 1806, was christened on 15 Feb 1807. He was the son of John and Ann Hampson. So 1: the birth year appears to be correct; 2: Jonathan's first born son was named John; his first daughter was christened Ann, ie after his 'parents' 3: John is sometimes used as an abbreviation of Jonathan Against this, there is a second John, also a son of John & Ann, christened on 7 Nov 1813, which might imply that the child christened in 1807 had died. What do you think?? Deep down, I suspect coincidence, but you never know. Best wishes Ian
