I believe that my HAMPSONs also came from the area -- John HAMPSON born sometime in the late 1700s, had a daughter Mary HAMPSON born abt 1818 and a son Richard HAMPSON born a couple of years earlier. By 1823 or so, however, they were believed to be in the Chorlton-on-Medlock area near Manchester -- he was a bookkeeper. Mary and husband George HOLLAND and his family emigrated to the US through Canada in 1857.
