It is a Settlement Examination, conducted by the Overseers of the Poor of St. Matthew's Stretford, of John Hampson of Stretford. The examination contains a sworn statement by John Hampson that he has a wife, Ann, and they have 4 children, William, Mary, Hannah and Jonathan. In respect of Jonathan, the examination would put his birth around 1806/7 and your earlier suggestion concerning the baptism of John Hampson in early 1807 at St. Matthews may turn out to be the right option. Unfortunately, it would appear that 2 couples by the name of John & Ann Hampson of Stretford are present during this period. In respect of the 2 baptisms for John Hampson in 1807 and 1813, I cannot find a burial for John at St Matthews. I have also tried Flixton, which appears to be popular with Stretford residents, but no sign of a burial. At this point in time, it would appear likely that 2 boys were baptised John Hampson in 1807 and 1813, parents in both cases were John & Ann Hampson of Stretford. If you would like a transcription of the settlement examination, I would be happy to forward it to you. best wishes Maxine
