Hi, I've read the name Hampson means something about working with rope (Hemp) and the work was centered in Lancashire, thus, Hampson being common to Lancs, although found elsewhere with later migrations around England. But in the 1891 census all the children are listed as living with their brother John Hampson stone mason b abt1861, Everton Lancashire; with wife Elizabeth b abt 1866, Lambeth Surrey, residing in Gremich, London. No where else can I find information about the brother John. If anyone has any info they can offer to this family please let me know. Also why is there so many Hampsons in Lancashire.
