Edward was the son of Thomas and Nancy HAMPSON of Lancashire, Edward was born in 1825. He was baptised on 15 May, 1825 t St Michael, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire. Not long after Edward and Eliza's marriage they immigranted to the USA. Where one son we are aware of was born, Wright Harrison HAMPSON between 1848 and 1852. Not long after Wright HAMPSON'S birth, the couple, we believe with two other children, also born in the USA, decided to leave the States and immigrate to Australia. Where after settling in the Colony of New South Wales, they continued to enlarge their family. Born were Thomas 1854, William 1856, Edward 1857, Henry 1860 and Mary 1862, all born in the Macleay River district, in Kempsey on the mid north coast of New South Wales. Edward became a Police Constable, and sadly while on duty on Christmas Eve in 1862 he was thrown from his horse and "dashed against a tree". He died from his injuries. Does anyone know more about this family, especially their home in England and were there any of the HAMPSON family already in the USA? Was this why they may have first gone to the States to join them, before they decided to move on to Australia? Any help would be very much appreciated. Regards, Janice Belrose - Sydney - Australia
