Hi everyone, The planned server upgrades for the Rootsweb list3 server will be happening on Friday 8th December, so there will be some delays to List traffic. Below is copy of the official notice from Rootsweb about this, giving times and details. We should all be happy to have an improved service at the end of it. :-) Any problems over the next few days, please drop me a line at the uual address. > RootsWeb will be upgrading its lists3.rootsweb.com mail server. Gina Bays: Hi! and Welcome! You didn't give your place of origin, so I'll give mine. My grandmother was Laura Augusta Hampson born in 1865 in, I believe, Tarrytown, NY. I have no information on her parents or her siblings and would like anything I can find. If you are in UK, you might know (or find out) about Hampsons who migrated to the USA. If so, let me know. Bob (Robert Sheldon Telford) in Long Beach, CA

Hi List, The above was born 27-Nov-1805 in TN and died 27-Jul-1876 in Putnam co. OH. She married Edward S. Corning before 1838. I need help finding her parents and siblings. Any info would be great. Thank you. Don Miller,
I am unsubscribed; I don't know why I got this. Instead of generating all that return e-mail, from concerned subscribers, why not include the Symantec URL in your first message? http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w95.mtx.html We presume the virus has been infecting very large numbers of people on your mailing list.
Hi fellow listers, Whereas virus alerts are not normally sent to the Lists, as List Admin I've been made aware of a nasty virus which has affected some people who sub to other Rootsweb Lists (and which a friend received from her sister) and due to it's difficult nature has proved hard to detect/remove. The a/v filters at Rootsweb should prevent the virus, which has various names although most commonly known as MTX,(also known as: W95.Oisdbo,W95.MTX.dr,W95.MTX(.dll)from reaching any subscriber. You may, however, receive it from elsewhere and be unaware of what it is. To help anyone affected or worried about this I have detailed information and cleaning instructions obtained from the Symantec anti-virus website database, and if you would like a copy please contact me offlist at Anne.Nichols@ukgateway.net and I'll forward them straight away. I shall also upload them to a webpage over the weekend in case someone needs them urgently whilst I'm not about. Hi everyone, I received this recently and felt it was worth passing onto the list as a timely reminder to name those photos before it's too late. With many thanks to Diane on the Hampson list for sending it to me. The Strangers In The Box Come, look with me inside this drawer, In this box I've often seen, All the pictures, black and white, faces proud, still and serene. I wish I knew the people, these strangers in the box, Their names and all their memories, are lost amongst the socks. I wonder what their lives were like. How did they spend their days? What about their special times, I'll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time, To tell who, what and when, These faces of my heritage would come to life again. Could this become the fate of the pictures we take today? The faces and the memories, some day to be tossed away. Make time to save your pictures, seize the opportunity when it knocks, Or someday you and yours could be, The Strangers In The Box. -- Cheers, Anne ICQ# 32010967 (nickie) mailto:Anne.Nichols@ukgateway.net Rootsweb ListOwner: Docwra, Dockery, Garton, Hampson and Schofield still hunting Nichols, Martin, Fletcher, Ford, Chandler

HAMPSON came to Kennebunkport, Maine, USA around 1820. (This came from a book on the History of Kennebunkport, Maine). It says he was a mariner (sea captain) from England. He married Olive CLOUGH on 18 September 1829 in Kennebunkport, Maine, USA. He died sometime between 1843 and 1850. (I have been unable to find his death record anywhere). The 1850 census lists his wife living alone, and when Olive Clough HAMPSON died 14 November 1875 she is buried in Biddeford, Maine, USA along with her married daughter. John W. HAMPSON is not buried in the same grave. (He is a mystery). I have records for the children of John and Olive HAMPSON, one of which, Charles H. P. HAMPSON, born 28 May 1843 in Kennebunkport, Maine, USA is my great great grandfather. Any information would be helpful. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from anyone out there. Jane D.
