His mother was called Hannah and was a Londoner, we think. Frederick moved to London following release from the Royal Engineers after WWI, where he won a Military Medal for bravery, he was a tunneller. He was illegitimate and took his mothers surname, Eliza Hampson. As I say not sure of the link as Frederick was born in Cheshire but it does seem a bit coincidental re. Camberwell connection. If you have any further info let me know. Regards. Hi everyone, Sadly it's time for another of my rare virus postings.. this time it's to repost to you an extract from the Rootsweb Review which explains that it is not Rootsweb that are mailing out virus-laden e-mails, but that the viruses themselves spoof the sent from address so that it looks like Rootsweb are doing so. Please read the article carefully, as it tells you what is happening. If, after that, you are still concerned about it or about the current wave of virus activity, feel free to contact me offlist. As ever, please be careful if you receive any mail with an attachment... two that are extremely common just now are the one pretending to be a Microsoft Update - i.e. the Gibe virus (Microsoft will *never* send you any genuine update by e-mail!), and the Klez virus which comes in several forms, one of which is a a new game to try. If you receive either then please delete them immediately and run a scan with an up-to-date anti-virus checker to ensure you are still virus-free. Extract follows: KLEZ WORM WIGGLES ACROSS THE NET. No, RootsWeb.com is not sending you a virus or worm in an attachment -- no matter what these "forged" addresses with RootsWeb name in it say. Be sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date and that you use it. Never open any e-mail attachments unless you have confirmed with the sender that she or he did indeed send it to you for a reason. Do not assume that the attachment came from where it says -- these sophisticated worms are able to forge addresses and they are fooling lots of people. Some even claim to be "worm removal tools." Don't believe them. The Klez worm has been able to spread because of a security vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer (browser) and because many people do not update their browser and download these patches. Don't risk the loss of your personal and genealogical data: Update your browser now: [2-line URL]: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/q290108/default.asp/ Most antivirus vendors, such as Symantec, McAfee and Sophos, offer Klez patches. Is your computer virus free? Hi: I'm looking for parents and family of Laura Augusta Hampson who was supposedly born in Tarrytown, NY on 28 June, 1865. She married my grandfather, George S. Telford, a Cumbrian, who came to America in 1882, and she died of the Dropsy on 17 Feb, 1906 in NYC and was buried in Kensico Cemetery. She was rumored to have 6 or more siblings, but the only one I knew was Francine who married Apsley Boulding and lived on 105th St. in NYC. Francine (Nana) died childless, a widow, on Staten Island. There was supposed to be a brother who served in the Union Army and was a prisoner in Richmond, VA, but I suspect it was more likely Laura and Francine's uncle. I lack any information on their parents, siblings, etc., so any information would be gratefully received. Bob Telford, Long Beach, CA
