I said I would do it. I have! The price of some of these census sets is subject to sufficient advance orders being received. The maximum price if you order now is shown on the census project web page. http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/books/census/index.htm The more advance orders that we receive, the cheaper the final price will become, and *everyone pays the cheaper price*. Some of these projects are very large and very expensive to produce. Prices are based on the anticipated number of sales of each set (which varies from county to county). The object of the exercise is to make the censuses available, not to make huge profits. Therefore, the more people who pre- order, then the cheaper the price will become - for everybody. Some have been reduced in price already! CORNWALL 1861 CENSUS Due to initial targets being met, the price has been reduced from £35.00 to £30.00. All those people who placed an advance order already will receive the set at this new lower price. (Subject to the next target being met, the price may reduce further!) You can make it cheaper by ordering in advance now. DEVON 1861 CENSUS Due to initial targets being met, the price has been reduced from £52.00 to £47.00. All those people who placed an advance order already will receive the set at this new lower price. (Subject to the next target being met, the price may reduce further!) You can make it cheaper by ordering in advance now. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE 1861 CENSUS Due to initial targets being met, the price has been reduced from £40.00 to £35.00. All those people who placed an advance order already will receive the set at this new lower price. (Subject to the next target being met, the price may reduce further!) You can make it cheaper by ordering in advance now, but this one is close to the release date. On schedule for release September. Others are in danger of being reduced in price! =============================================== STAFFORDSHIRE 1861 CENSUS Update 26 August: We are close to reducing the price on this set. After 8 more orders have been received, the first price reduction will come into effect. LINCOLNSHIRE 1861 CENSUS Update 26 August: We are close to reducing the price on this set. After 9 more orders have been received, the first price reduction will come into effect. ... and several more are looking very interesting indeed, requiring less than 20 more orders to enable the price to be reduced. Credit cards will not be charged until the CDs have been completed ready for despatch. Remember.... it is YOU who set the final price by placing advance orders! and.... There are FREE Directories on CD with all advance orders for a census set placed before midnight Sunday 1st September - for details see the census project web page. http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/books/census/index.htm Please note: I cannot vary the free CD stated, or substitute an alternative. If you already have it, why not give the free one to someone as a gift? ALSO ! - as we are currently running a promotion for new customers to Archive CD Books - all new customers will also receive a FREE copy of the excellent 1791 Universal Directory of Britain. This important and incredibly useful 5 volume directory on CD (normal price GBP 29.74) will be included totally free with any CD order from every new buyer. I have now finalised on a list of censuses (for the first batch) that will be released by the Archive CD Books Project. (Most are for 1861, and some are for 1891). We have worked from really excellent films (not microfiche) copied from the first generation films at the PRO, and have then used the very best possible film scanner currently available to digitise the images at a high resolution. That's £45,000 worth of scanner. QUALITY. Using Adobe Acrobat Reader you can zoom in and in to read the pages. You really don't have to squint to read the them. Zoom in to 100% without any loss of detail. That's because of the very high quality of the scanning. Yes, that's right..... UP TO 100% (and beyond). The detail is perfectly readable at a much lower magnification of course. Rather than digitise to a lower quality and then have magnification and distortion start to make it hard to read, we have given you the best QUALITY to start with. Print quality is excellent too! Even on a standard bubble jet printer you can get superb results. You can print first class copies of any page for use in your family history documents. QUALITY DO print out pages of the census enumerator's books to include in your family history files. Not only are they the proof to support your research, but other family members find it absolutely fascinating to see these actual old original documents (no matter how sceptical they may be about your hobby). Download the samples from the project web page, and see for yourself. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Advance orders will be accepted, but credit cards will not charged until the CDs are ready for despatch. Orders placed in advance will be charged at the stated price or *less*. That's right... or LESS. IMPORTANT. READ THIS With some of the sets, I have a very good idea of the quantities that may sell. With those, the price has now been fixed, to cover the costs. The final price *may* reduce a little. BUT Some of the sets are subject to sufficient advance orders being received. The maximum price of these if you order now will be shown. The more advance orders over 100 that we receive, the cheaper the final price will become, and everyone pays the cheaper price. Some of these projects are very large and very expensive to produce. Prices are based on the anticipated number of sales of each set (which varies from county to county). The object of the exercise is to make the censuses *available*, and *not* to make huge profits. That is one of the basic principles of the Archive CD Books Project. Therefore, the more people who pre-order those marked as such, then the cheaper the price will become - for everybody! I hope that you like this idea! For example, if the stated "starting price" of a particular county is 50.00 and lots more people order before the final release date, then the finishing price could become substantially lower. Say, 30.00. Whatever happens, then *everyone* will be charged at the lower price. Credit cards will not charged until the CDs are made and ready for despatch. It is in everyone's interest to place advance orders early. For more details, samples and prices, see: http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/books/census/index.htm So.... go and have a look, and then please do tell your friends on the relevant mailing lists. The more that order in advance, the cheaper they become! 3. Hi Joyce The only likely entries on the 1881 census are for Elizabeth Hampson, a widow and licensed victualler at 9 College Lane Liverpool. She lived with two daughters Mary jane b 1845 and Ann b 1840. This doesnt seem to gel with Dr Stephenson's agency. I will keep looking but there is no other likely census entries. 3. Greetings from Oz I am the ggson of Alfred Ross Hampson b 1850 m Louisa Mary Ann Bannister 1877 both were music hall performers which makes research very difficult. I have databases giving information about several thousand Hampsons back to 16th century. These are mainly UK based but I will be puttting in other countries and then the whole lot will be on the net for search/ browse. i am just coming to grips with the software required for this. I may put up just an index first for people to see and then contact me for detail.I am resticting entered data to that which has real provenance but I do have another database which contains unproven data which I know has some mythical 'facts' included. If any one has any data they are willing to share with me I will be eternally (or even more) grateful. 1. [HAMPSON] ADMIN: Time for a Roll Call..?
    2. ListOwner
    3. Hi listers, As we seem to have a flurry of interest I'm thinking it's time to do a Roll Call again and see if we can't link up some of our lines. Please repost your interests and dead ends/brick walls using the Subject line Roll Call, and give as much detail as you like about your Hampsons. To widen the possibilities of finding links don't forget to use the Hampson message board as well, the board is gatewayed to the list so all messages posted to it appear on this list, whereas if you just post to the list those who only read the board will not see it. Use both together and you may get lucky! Board addresses for those who haven't been there or have lost the links are: Via the Rootsweb portal http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.hampson or via the Ancestry.com portal http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=surnames.hampson Both addresses will show the same messages though so you only need to post to one board not both. -- Cheers, Anne mailto:docwras@yahoo.co.uk http://resource.at/docwra The Docwra Family Research Project
