    2. 1-16-03 I wish I could be of more use to you. My Great Great Grandfather, Joseph Hampson arrived from England with a wife and two sons. He based himself in Newburgh, New York for reasons I still cannot determine. His wife died there and he remarried and then died there himself eventually. I have even gone to find his grave in the cemetery. The Library in Newburgh does have quite a good genealogy department. I am sorry that I can't be of more help to you. Cuyler Kidney

They were married in Feb of 1890 and lived in NYC until she died in 1906. I only know that she was buried in Kensico and she had a sister named Francine. Have heard there were half a dozen more siblings. Bob Telford, Long Beach, CA, USA

    3. Hi Marianne The Hampson name is not that common. At the time of the 1881 census there were approx 5500 Hampsons resident in the UK. This is out of a population of about 30 million. Of the 5500 about 3500 lived in Lancashire. The rest were mainly in Derbyshire, Cheshire , London and Warwick. The general proportion seems to have changed slightly between 1881 and 1901, the populatin went up whilst the Hampsons stayed more or less the same. 3. Hello Listers, I hope all have a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year - and more to the point - trace that missing ancestor <g>. I have two families I am interested in - this being the first: One member is Peter McDermid the second husband to Margaret Hampson, daughter of Henry Andrew Hampson and Jean Verbinia McIndoe. I have a photocopy of Margaret's death notice which is in the Osage City Free Press dated 19th February 1881: McDERMOTT - on Friday, February 13th, 1881, Mrs Peter McDermott, aged 55 years, she was buried from St Patrick's church on Saturday. She was a native of Scotland. Several Grown Children are left to mourn her. What I am trying to find out is: Was she visiting or did she live there. The phrase "native to Scotland" may indicate she was visiting, but then it may indicate just her place of birth. Who were the Children, and what happened to Peter? Anyone got any idea, or family record of Margaret? Cheers Walter -- Walter Hampson
