Parents were James Hampson and Mary (Darbyshire of Sale,Cheshire). I understand that the family may have eventually moved to Rochdale. He is an elder brother to my grandmother, Minnie Hampson (b.1898), who emigrated to Australia and married George Vaun in 1926. James is 1 of 13 children, others are Mary Ellen (b.1888), William (b.1890), Emily (b.1891), Florence (b.1895),Mary Ann (b.1897) and Ada (b.1900). Other names known but not verified are Daisy and Reg. I believe that a sister and a brother emigrated to the USA. Hope to hear from you!

George had a sugar cane farm in Nth. QLD. They eventually moved to NSW where the climate was more suitable for Minnie. They had three children, 1 boy and 2 girls. Minnie was 1 of 13 children. Her parents are James Hampson and Mary (nee Darbyshire). I think the Hampson family eventually moved to Rochdale, but I don't know when. Mention made of sisters Emily, Daisy and Florence and brothers Reg and Jim. Before marriage, I believe that Minnie worked at Brisbane Hospital. Are we related? Your information is surprisingly similar to my family history! Hope to hear from you!

I have posted my own search which you might have seen for family of my grandmother, Laura Augusta HAMPSON who I believe to have been born 1865 in Tarrytown, NY. After she died in 1906 her daughter lived in PA - a suburb of Philadelphia - which leads me to think there was some HAMPSON contact there in PA. So, if you find anything that seems to link with those two areas, I'd appreciate knowing. My grandmother Laura married my grandfather (an immigrant from St. Bees, Cumberland) in 1890 in NYC, I believe. That's where they lived. Bob Telford, Long Beach, CA, USA

    3. I'm wondering whether anybody can throw some light on my Hampson family. Father John was born about 1832 in Wigan, Lancashire, then moved to Staffordshire and then onto Derbyshire. Mother Mary Ann (Rhodes) was born about 1838 in Staffordshire. They had children Emma (my great grandmother), Martha, John, Margaret, Rose, William, Arthur, Ernest, Walter, Clara and Joseph (that I know of!!). Emma and Martha I have been able to keep track of, but the rest of the family disappear from England after the 1881 census. I believe they may have gone to America in the 1880's - I am basing this on two very vague points. Firstly I recall when I was young some American "cousins" visiting my mother and also a search of the US Social Security Death Index which turns up a Joseph Hampson dying in April 1972 in McDonald, Washington, Pennsylvania - his date of birth is exactly the same as baby Joseph above (14 December 1880). Is there anybody else researching this branch of the Hampson tre! e? Is it possible to get any American BMD information on the web without joining Ancestry or something like that - I don't want to pay until I'm sure they went to America. TIA - Marj, Perth, WA.

    2. To all listers: I'm still trying to find anyone connected with the Hampson family that lived in Tarrytown, NY around 1880/90. She was my grandmother, and I have her burial information, but I can't find any data on her parents or siblings other than a sister named Francine who married Apsley Boulding. All of this was in NYC where my grandfather (from St. Bees) settled until my grandmother, Laura Augusta HAMPSON, died in 1906 and was buried in Kensico Cem. Bob Telford, Long Beach, CA, USA
