    1. Hampson in Tarrytown, NY
    2. Bob, I'm not sure I can help you very much with your HAMPSON ancestors because the information you've supplied is too "recent" for a connection between us. What I know about my Hampsons is that their name was also spelled Hamson. It appears that they were living in Sussex County, NJ, at the time of the Revolutionary War. In the early 1800's they migrated to Beaver and Washington Counties in western PA. My current challenge is trying to figure out when they first arrived in New Jersey and where they came from. There was a Caleb Hamson who appeared on the 1777 tax list of the Philip Philipse Patent, Philipse Precinct, in Putnam County, NY. Since Tarrytown is also in Putnam County, it could be that your grandmother, Laura Augusta Hampson, is descended from him. It still remains to be seen whether my Hampsons are his descendants. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Beth

    2. This is directed primarily toward two people who signed their names "Beth" and "Rosemary." It is possible you might be able to help me with the following: My grandmother, Laura Augusta Hampson, was born in Tarrytown, NY 28 June, 1865. My grandfather came from St. Bees, Cumberland, to NYC in 1882, and they were married 18 Feb 1890 in NY. She died 17 Feb 1906 and is buried in Kensico Cemetery, NY. All I have on her is the above plus the fact that she had a sister named Francine who married an Apsley Boulding and lived on Manhattan but had no children Also, my grandfather somehow gravitated to PA where his daughter, my aunt Ethel Telford, married Harry Reitz and raised a family in Philadelphia. It's possible that the Hampsons had relatives in PA, and it's possible they could be related to your strain. One other factor is a rumor that my grandmother's uncle served in the Union forces in the Civil War and was imprisoned in the Richmond, VA prison for a while. Anything you can come up with that can tie in with the above will be much appreciated. Bob Robert Sheldon Telford, Long Beach, CA

Unfortunately, I have nothing more to offer than LaDonna had when you were corresponding with her a few years ago. As a matter of fact, the info I have actually came from her! So we're probably all "on the same page", ending with Richard. But I would like to compare notes with you anyway just to make sure. From my research, though, I'm beginning to wonder if the HAMPSON family was known as HAMPTON. I'm finding a lot in New Jersey on Hampton but not too much on Hampson/Hamson. Still haven't found a Richard, though, with any of those surnames. And I can't find any HAZENs in Camden County, but a lot of them in Sussex County, New Jersey. Still haven't found our Lydia either.

I think Joseph eventually ended up in Pennsylvania, via New Jersey. I have limited info on this family but would be interested in comparing notes and sharing what I have.

    2. Does anyone know of a Hampson family who emigrated to New York and ended up in Tarrytown around the middle of the 19th Century? They had about eight children, but I know of only two: Francine and Laura Augusta Hampson, the latter being my grandmother. Bob Robert Sheldon Telford, Long Beach, CA

    3. Dear All, I am new to this list after just tracing one of my ancestors to the Hampsons of Wednesbury, Staffordshire, UK. I have a Jonah Hampson (aka Joseph Hampson) born about 1842 at Wednesbury married Emma Ann Japps? I believe he is the son of Edward Hampson (born about 1796, Wednesbury) and Mary Spooner, married 1820, All Saints, West Bromwich. This later part is guess work using the IGI. As is my belief that Edwards Father is Joseph Hampson (born about 1777, Wednesbury) who married Elizabeth Foster 1795 at Saint Martins, Birmingham. Pleased to hear from anyone with similar interests or extra information. Cheers, John

    3. John! I wish you would quit hiding. You were born either 20 Feb 1860 or 26 Feb 1861. You emigrated to the US when you were 16 in about 1876. I believe you were a weaver in Northern Ireland and eventually became a grocery store manager in Philadelphia. I'd like to know about the family you left behind and your brothers and sisters. Please let us know where you are and what happened to your brothers and sisters. Your friend, Jim

My grandmother, Laura Augusta Hampson, was born 5 years earlier than the person in your photograph and in Tarrytown, NY. However, I am still struggling to find other members of her family, notably her parents, and they could conceivably be related to the Laura Hampson, etc. that you have. I'd be interested in knowing. The photo I have which probably came from you is labeled Brooklyn NY. Bob Telford

    3. Fellow listers: We're looking for a John Boyd who married a Margaret O'Neill. They were probably born in the 1830's or 40's. They never left Northern Ireland. Among their children was Thomasena Boyd born 1866. We're looking for a John Hampton (1860-1936) who married Thomasena Boyd (1866-1942) in June 1889. John emigrated in 1876 and Thomasena in 1886. We hope to find out where they were born in Northern Ireland. Thank you, Jim Gunn
