John Hampson & Mary Ann Rhodes were married 2nd Qtr 1855 in Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. They had thye following children: Emma, Martha, John, Mary Ann, Margaret, Rosa, William, Arthur, Ernest, Walter, Clara & Joseph b. Dec. 1880. The family came to the US after 1881 (the family was enumerated on the English census that year, but John was missing.) Possibly he came first. John died in Scott Township, Allegheny Co, PA between 1910-1920, Mary Ann died before 1900. I have Joseph married to Grace ca 1905 in Allegheny Co, PA. I only have one child listed for them, Clarice b. 1921. If this is your family let me know. Sue

They brought with them their sons, one named William who was born around 1871. I never got to meet any of them except my Grandfather (Joseph) who was born in 1880.. As I understand the history , they left 4 married daughters in England, whe they immigrated to the US. I have been trying to research the history with little luck. I hope this results in a match. Valerie Are we talking about the same Emily King? Emily King married Peter Hampson on 8th May 1870 in South Hayling and died on 8 January 1938 (aged 85) in Glasgow, Scotland. She was my Great Grand-Mother. She and Peter had 9 children: William Henry Peter Hampson Arthur McIndoe Hampson Mary Ann Hampson Francis Hampson Caroline Hampson Peter Hampson Mark Alfred King Hampson (1888-1936 - My Grand Father) Alfred James Andrew Hampson (1891) Page 2 entry 24 of the 1891 census for the Parish of Barony district of St. Rollox, Glasgow provides the following information for Emily: Address 115 Glebe Street. Relation to Head of Household (Peter Hampson) wife, age 37. County of birth given as Hayling England. I am not aware that she remarried and have not found any certificate regarding that or indeed any other children, which I would be interested in and would be grateful if you could provide details. Peter died in 1903 aged 65 and was the 3rd son/child of Andrew Henry Hampson and Jean Verbina Macindoe (my great great grand parents). I have a picture of Emily taken before her death. This is my periodic plea for data on the siblings and forbears of my grandmother, Laura Augusta HAMPSON. She was born 28 June, 1865 and died 17 Feb. 1906 at the age of 40. She lived in Tarrytown, NY and married my grandfather, George Stainton TELFORD (born in St. Bees, Cumberland), on 18 Feb. 1890. They lived around 105th St. in west side Manhattan and later on West 66th St. where the "Y" currently is. She is buried in Kensico Cem., N.Y. She was reputed to have had up to 8 siblings. The only one I knew was her sister, Francine, who married Apsley Boulding and lived at 59 West 105th St. NYC. After his death, Francine moved to Great Kills, Staten Island where she lived until her death around 1935. Laura Augusta and Francine were reputed to have had an uncle who served in the Union Army during the Civil War and was captured by the Confederates and imprisoned in a well known POW camp in Richmond, VA. I'd appreciate it if any answer to this list include a copy to me at RSTELF@cs.com. Bob Telford Robert Sheldon Telford, Long Beach, CA

He was the son of Betty Hampson, he was born 15 August 1862 and lived at Westhoughton at the time of the 1881 census. However we think he was originally called William Challinor (his father's surname), he married as a Challinor but later changed his name to William Hampson (his mother's original surname). It is a Settlement Examination, conducted by the Overseers of the Poor of St. Matthew's Stretford, of John Hampson of Stretford. The examination contains a sworn statement by John Hampson that he has a wife, Ann, and they have 4 children, William, Mary, Hannah and Jonathan. In respect of Jonathan, the examination would put his birth around 1806/7 and your earlier suggestion concerning the baptism of John Hampson in early 1807 at St. Matthews may turn out to be the right option. Unfortunately, it would appear that 2 couples by the name of John & Ann Hampson of Stretford are present during this period. In respect of the 2 baptisms for John Hampson in 1807 and 1813, I cannot find a burial for John at St Matthews. I have also tried Flixton, which appears to be popular with Stretford residents, but no sign of a burial. At this point in time, it would appear likely that 2 boys were baptised John Hampson in 1807 and 1813, parents in both cases were John & Ann Hampson of Stretford. If you would like a transcription of the settlement examination, I would be happy to forward it to you. best wishes Maxine
