Good Afternoon, My name is Kaye, and I live in Victoria Australia and a new family researcher. My queries today is, regarding to my great, great, grandfather Edward Searle. According to his Death Certificate, he was born in Itchen Ferry Hampshire. Information I have is: * Edward Searle Born 16th October 1795 Itchen Ferry Hampshire * Parents John Searle & Mary ? Searle * Edward Married 24th February 1819 at St Martin's in the Fields London to Mary Malkin (Malkan) * Edward Mary & child Sophia Jane aged 3 years migrated to South Africa in 1820 * I have Death Certificates for both Edward & Mary from South Africa. I have been unable to find records of: * Edwards Birth details * Mary Searles Maiden name * Birth or Death records for either John or Mary. * Parents of either John or Mary I also believe the child, called Sophia Jane, was born to Edward abt 1917 but once again no proof. Any assistance with any of the above will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation Kindest Regards Kaye

Are any of the BAKER and CLEMENTS names in the family listed below, known to anyone on the list? John BAKER and Louisa CLEMENTS are my 2nd g/grandparents I have been unable to find out where in England they originated - it would appear that John Baker possibly married Louisa Clements after the 1841 Census. All of their children in the 1851 Census of Jersey are listed as being born in England, so it is assumed that the family moved to Jersey about 1850. Another child, James, was born in Jersey in 1854 and it is from his birth certificate that I have obtained the maiden name of his mother, Louisa Clements. 1851 Census =========== John Head 38 Farmer's labourer born England Louisa Wife 35 born England John Son 9 Scholar born England Elizabeth Daughter 8 Scholar born England William Son 6 Scholar born England Louisa Daughter 3 born England Henry Son 1 born England Any help or suggestions as to where I could look would be appreciated. Best wishes John Jagot

Hi, please bookmark my new e-mail address. I have discarded my old fsnet.co.uk address in an attempt to escape the plague of junk mail. To those of you who may not immediately recall me, we have corresponded in the past on such matters as military and air force and family history research in Australia, Belgium, France and the UK. Oh, and this goes for Sue's contacts too. Cheers Dave Hatherell

Hello Hampshire Surname List! There has been little activity on this list for awhile so I thought I would try to generate some interest and see if we can't find some common cousins. My HAMPSHIRE ancestors are as follows ... James HAMPSHIRE born Bethnal Green, London, Eng approx 1811 (his father was also James and was a Baker) He married Ann FORECAST in 1842, and they had the following son (amongst other children) ... George HAMPSHIRE born 1847 Bethnal Green; George married Alice EDMONDS in Nottingham (Eng - 1888) My grandfather (William Mortimer) was a child of this marriage, however he was adopted by Alice's sister (and took the surname COATES). HAMPSHIRE is my male line of descent, recently I had a DNA test which assigned me to the G2 haplogroup (Ysearch ID: 2DC42). I would be interested if anyone else has been tested, particularly those with a HAMPSHIRE male line. If anyone has information regarding the HAMPSHIRE name and its origins (from my research it appears to be concentrated in West Yorks) then please could they share it. I encourage you to post your interests. andy coates (list admin) ottawa, canada

Hi, My line of Hampshires, I have been able to trace back to Albury in Surrey, they moved a few miles away to Cranleigh Surrey ( in those days spelt Cranley) in the 1600s & lived at Thornsflush Farm. In 1859 my great great grandfather Michael Hampshire married for a second time in West Horsley Church, Surrey. If anyone on the list has Hampshire connections from that area I should love to hear from you. Margot Smith nee Hampshire. Bristol.
Hello Steve good luck in your new post of list administrator. My HAMPSHIRE interest is in an Elizabeth HAMPSHIRE 1785-1852, who in 1807 married a Humphrey Benjamin DADD (a ship caulker) in Camberwell, Surrey, England. They lived thereafter in nearby Rotherhithe and had seven known children. The only info I have developed on Elizabeth's background is that she is born Surrey. Cheers Dave Hatherell Croydon, UK [email protected]
Hello Steve Thanks for your welcome message My interest in Hampshire arises from my GGGrandfather Joseph who was a publican (Kings Arms Woolwich) in London c1830. His son Joseph Harold married and moved North to Manchester / Liverpool. From there he emigrated to Brazil with his two children Francis and Henry Joseph. I operate a web site for anyone interested in emigrants to Brazil.
