We have had quite a few people asking about a sudden increase in spam mailings, even though they do not have a website with their email address on. A lot of this is caused by Rootsweb signing over control to Ancestry Com and over the past month the amount of spam has overtaken the amount of emails we receive. Out of 38 emails 20 of them are spam. We have contacted Rootsweb about this but they do not seem to care. So we recommend that you seriously consider installing MAILWASHER which is free from http://www.mailwasher.net this is a simple little programme just over 1.4Mb and you can preview your emails before you download them, bounce, delete and blacklist spam, and put your friends into a separate list. It works perfectly with Outlook Express but cannot comment on other email programmes. All of the spam is deleted before you download them from your ISP. A full tutorial can be found on Mailwashers website which explains everything, and the programme is freeware though the writer does ask for a small contribution to help improve it. We are not connected with Mailwasher in any way but have found it a brilliant piece of software to combat spam. All comments on this please off list.
