This week is the 60th anniversary of the Dambusters raid, and I am reminded of it as I am sitting here at home in Lincolnshire having just seen a Lancaster bomber and a Spitfire fly over my house; they are returning to base having done a fly past over the City of Lincoln, about 4 miles from the Scampton air base where the Dambusters flew from. The Hampshire interest is that one of my neighbours as a child was the mother of a dambuster - sadly he was killed, but his mother's greatest pride was that she went to Buckingham Palace to receive his VC. It is wonderful to hear the sound of a 'proper' aeroplane again - they have such a throaty roar, but would not be very comfortable or very quick as getting us around the world today, still great to hear them again.
