Still tracing BULLPITS from Hampshire area. They say that our name descended from BULLS in a PIT and thats not BULL. Joan B.C. Canada
I have a few Bulpitt's from the Andover, one of whom, Harriet, married in 1891 John Wilmott who is a descendant of my GILES line. Being addicted to cryptic crosswords may I suggest that "a name descended from BULL in a PIT" would be PIBULLT, or even HOLBULLE. Forgive me but it's a miserable day here in Ontario David ----- Original Message ----- From: "joanniel" <joanniel@shaw.ca> To: <hampshire-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 11:59 AM Subject: [HAMPSHIRE-LIFE] BULLPIT > Still tracing BULLPITS from Hampshire area. > > They say that our name descended from BULLS in a PIT > > and thats not BULL. > > Joan > B.C. Hi Joan, I expect you know that the family name can be spelt Bulpit, Bullpit, Bulpitt, and Bullpitt, but have you looked at the family distribution maps on ancestry.com? It certainly looks as though they originated in Hampshire, with a later satellite group in Lancashire. Reference books are strangely silent on the source of this name.
