Hello, My Grt. Grandmother was born at Bullington, Hampshire in 1821, her name as it appears on her marriage certificate was Sarah MALT, however in another place it is Sarah MALLT. The problem I have is that both Sarah and the man she was marrying, my Grt. Grandfather, George ROGERS, signed the Marriage certificate with an "X", so obviously neither of them could write. Does anyone know of the name MALT etc. especially in the Bullington area of Hampshire. If she gave her name, at her wedding , as MALT or something that sounded like MALT, does anyone have any ideas as to what else it could have been. Are there any names in the Winchester area, or anywhere, that would have sounded like MALT. Always looking for ROGERS at Broughton, Hampshire and LONG and ROGERS at Soberton, Hampshire.
