A very large fat woman dressed all in black with her hair tied in a bun looking down at me, as I only came up to her knees!! Then this large booming voice telling me to stand up straight, I was honest miss!! And that was only the school secretary!!! My first teacher was a Miss Wheeler at Lydlynch Infants School in Totton and I thought she was great, let us play with plasticine and pots of coloured powder that you mixed with water and looked great on all the other kids!! But the Headmistress................Aaagh!! Miss Little (now that is an opposite) was the headmistress and despite her name she was bigger than the school secretary!! I was not allowed to eat boiled fish on doctors orders, but this did not deter this fearsome by product of the Wehrmacht! "Go to my office Hayles" she would boom, "And take your plate with you" There I was made to stand at her desk and eat every last scrap all through playtime!!! "But Miss I am not allowed to the doctor said!" "Doctor! I am in charge here, Ve haf ways of making you big and strong!!" Little was I to know what was to come after just that first week!!!
