    3. Hello list people, In the 1861 census for South Hayling Hants, Norfolk House in the Crescent, there's two entries for young "lodgers" Mary N. RICHARDSON a lodger, age 5yrs, born Warmington, Essex. Another "lodger" Charlotte WHITE a lodger age 10yrs born Colchester (Berechurch) Essex. She was an illegitimate child, her father "reputed" to be a friend of her mother's family. Her mother physically abandoned her, but it seems that "arrangements" had been made for the girl's upbringing, ie lodgement in a "boarding house" . The boarding-house keeper was Ann Yeoman CHESTER a widow aged 47, who was born in Colchester. The 1871 census for the same address shows it to be uninhabited ! I'm seeking to find what Charlotte did and where she lived between 1861 and when she arrived in New Zealand in the late 1870s. She may have been employed as a governess or teacher. Has anyone noticed her anywhere in the 1871 census. Has anybody any suggestions ? Anything at all would be much appreciated. TIA. Cheers, Joy. NZ
