Does anyone have access to the 1851 British census? If there WAS one! To find the following information, I had to go to the public library to use their Ancestry Plus computer program. I do not have access to this at home. I seek information on George Griffin, born about 1811 in Dorset (Corfe Mullen). His wife was Sophia (maiden name unknown- born in Kings Worthy or Abbotts Worthy, Hants per two of the census takers) The Census for 1861 and 1871 show George and Sophia with a large family, living in Winchester, parish of Bartholomew Hyde. I wish to know what other children were in the home before the 1861 census, and especially seek Julia E. Griffin. All children listed in the 1861 and 1871 census were born in Headbourne Worthy, Hants. The 1861 census lists 7 children, 1871 census lists 8 children, and one granddaughter (born in London ! Have no idea who this child's parents were). 1881 census doesn't have either George or Sophia (don't know what happened to them), but shows Julia E. Griffin as living with her married brother Tom. Residence: 21 New Street, St. John the Evangelist, London. Julia Emily Griffin married my great-grandfather James Avey in London in 1885, and her sister, Ellen Griffin married William Day (a police officer) in Winchester, and they raised my grandfather Ernest Avey (son of James). Thank you to any and all who can provide me with dates, places and names!! Margot in USA --- http://USFamily.Net/dialup.html - $8.25/mo! -- http://www.usfamily.net/dsl.html - $19.99/mo! ---
