Can anyone tell me whether Freemantle Burial Ground is still open for burials? And if not, when did it close? I had heard that it received some bomb damage during a raid in WWII - would the burials (especially 1881 and before) be on an index I can search over the internet? I know that my gg.grandfather and at least two of her children were buried there; I'm hoping to find my gg.grandmother and, possibly, a grandchild. Many thanks.

If this is the Freemantle on the west of Southampton then I never knew there was a burial ground there. I have never seen one, I think the nearest one being in the old Millbrook Church which was moved to make way for a housing estate! Or Holybrook near the General Hospital.
