    3. The Order of Rechabites was formed in the 1830's, as a Friendly Society which offered a temperance alternative. From Jeremiah 35;6 "But they said we will drink no wine, for Jonadab, the son of RECHAB, our father, commanded us saying "You shall drink no wine, neither you nor your sons for ever" Most Friendly Societies, at that time, met in Pubs, with the encouragement of the publican, often to the disadvantage of the membership, so the temperence of the Order of Recabites was a real alternative.
