>> From: "Mike & Sheila" <micshe@iprimus.com.au> >> Could someone please explain what details may be found on a Marriage Certificate. Would a copy of the Marriage certificate list where they were actually born, or would it just refer to them being of that parish at the time of their marriage. It isn't actually a marriage certificate. It is a marriage entry in a parish register. In 1802 it will give the names, parishes, witnesses, and whether by Banns or Licence. It may give marital status (bachelor, widower, etc). A few entries give occupation. You will find examples of parish register entries (baptisms, marriages, burials) at http://www.british-genealogy.com/resources/registers/indexf.htm >> William Poore was of St Mary Bourne, and his wife Willoughby Butterfield was of Up Hurstbourne, is this Hurstbourne Tarrant, Hurstbourne Priors, or is there another Hurstbourne that I have missed. Up Hurstbourne (or Up Husband) is Hurstbourne Tarrant. Down Hurstbourne (or Down Husband) is Hurstbourne Priors. >> I have searched both these parishes, but cannot find an entry of birth for either of them. I assume you mean baptism rather than birth, and that you have searched microfilm copies of the parish registers. ****** The HGS 1851 Census Index shows the following at Hurstbourne Tarrant: HO 107/1683/611 POORE Willoughby S - 70 - b Hampshire Not Known HO 107/1683/633 POORE Eli - 37 - b St Mary Bourne Sophia - 34 - b Andover Mary Jane - 8 - b Upton Eli - 4 - b Upton Earle - 3- b Upton HO 107/1683/634 POORE Elizabeth - 28 - b Upton Upton is partly in Hurstbourne Tarrant and partly in Vernham Dean. There was a POOR family at Vernham Dean in 1851. Alan McGowan Hampshire Family History Site http://website.lineone.net/~hantshistory
