Hi Listers could anyone please suggest where I may be able to get information as to some at least 3 members of family may have obtained their medical qualifications from. They were all born in Andover. William Poore (in his will dated 1760) refers to a shop in Andover, he was a surgeon, apothocary, and male widwife. In the Unviersal British Directory there is a listing for Philip Poore Physic. Not sure yet who this Philip is as William's Son Phillip Henry wasn't christened until 1764, but did become a doctor, surgeon, apothocary, male midwife. There is also a listing in the "Historical Directories - from Pigot & C0's Royal National & Commercial Directory of 1844 a Phillip H Poore m.d. of New Street Andover. George Vivian Poore F.R.C.P. born Sept 1843 Grandson to Phillip Henry, I have found details of some 24 papers he wrote for medical journals. On the 1881 census he was at 30 Wimpole Street, London. I would like to try and find out where they may have studied. Does anyone know if back then certifcates as such were awarded to state that a person had qualified in these fields, and if so where may I be able to obtain a copy from. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Many thanks Sheila South Australia --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
