Hello, Trying to remember the name of a village which is close to Alton, Hampshire, is it Selbourne or am I dreaming. If it is, is this the correct spelling ?? Thankyou, Pam,showing my age !!

Pam asked for the correct spelling of Selborne. The first is correct - Selborne - made famous by the Revd. Gilbert White (1720-93), the curate who was born there and lived there all his life. He wrote the well known "Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne" published in 1788 which has stood the test of time and made a mecca of the place for naturalists. Brian
