Could be a competition to do with Shooting or Rifle Competition. I had such a relative. Also did you check the Commonwealth Ware Graves site in case he was in WWI. Just some thoughts.... I'm tracing a relatively rare family surname - DIDYMUS - and on putting this into the LG search box for WW1, I am presented with two options. One I am already aware of - my Gt Uncle AL DIDYMUS (RAMC) was awarded the Military Medal. However, the second entry is a little more confusing. The entry lists dates and the headings (for example) "After Open Competition", "After Limited Competition" and "Without Competetion". Thomas Mark DIDYMUS otherwis BULLER, has an entry for 30 January 1918, "Without Competition", Admiralty, HM Dockyards and Naval Establishments: Labourer, Frederick Jenkins - where he is listed under Skilled Labourers. Can any one please try and explain what this is - I'd be really interested to know what it's all about!!
