Chris and Caroline It was 'announced by the Minister for Arts, Baroness Blackstone, in July 2002, [that] the functions of the Public Record Office (PRO) and the Historical Manuscripts Commission (HMC) will be joining together in April 2003 to form a new body, the National Archives.' The article goes on to say that ' during 2003 the HMC and its search room will be moving to the current PRO building at Kew, and there will a redesign of the public areas to allow this to happen . Once the move is complete, researchers in the PRO will be able to locate and look at lists for private collection held elsewhere .
