It has been decided that the old King George V Graving Dock at Southampton is to be scrapped. Reportedly the largest of its kind in the world the wooden gates (150ft wide by 60ft deep) have already been dismantled and are due to be burnt. According to APP the firm that owns it it has made not one penny since the 1970s. The last ships to use it have been the cruise liners. Many people will remember the site of the Queen Mary or Elizabeth, The France or the United States standing proud in the dock as they drive past on the buses through Millbrook.
