Hi David, In Australia they usually calls the girls "sheilas" like some English fellows call them "birds". Americans call them "babes" and "dolls". What do Canadians call them -- "chicks"? "Slim Bruce" I would think is a male nurse, etc. LOL, Edna - Ottawa where the sun always shines ----------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- > From: "David Parker" <parker3250@rogers.com> > To: "Edna & Ken" <ekbrits@sympatico.ca>; <HAMPSHIRE-LIFE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2003 10:49 AM > Subject: Re: [HantsLife] Seamus > > > > Good news indeed. > > > > But did not someone suggest that English is spoken in Australia. > > If so, what in Shakespeare's good name, are "a buxom Sheila" and "a slim > > Bruce" ??? You see I thought that a "slim Bruce" was a slender woman as opposed to a buxom one - Australian is indeed a foreign tongue to me. But now I understand. I did not previously appreciate that Australians obviously use Monty Python as a source of their language. Sorry about that.. Actually I understand that "Sheila" is no longer acceptable.
