Regards England May...... The accents have definitely changed, Chinese, Indian, Algerian, Slav, Afghan you name it we have it and it can be all in one little street, problem is most of them now have British Nationality so are classed as locals!!! Chris and Caroline PS there is an advert on the TV where two chinese have Scots accents, and it is so funny as its unexpected!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "mayndave" <mayndave@bigpond.net.au> To: <HAMPSHIRE-LIFE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 18, 2003 7:28 AM Subject: [HantsLife] Defending our position re accents Hi Brian, I live in Perth and have an obsession for accents and trying to pin down where people come from. The only thing that really gives away an Eastern Stater to me is the way they say the word "you've". Apart from that, the difference (if any) is so tiny that it more usually can be attributed to the natural difference of voices themselves; not accents. The word mentioned above can best be illustrated from the McCain advert on telly. The guy says "Ah McCain, your've done it again!" Well, that's how it sounds to me. He is an Eastern Stater. I would say "Yoo've done it again". Accents in England, more so in years gone by when people didn't travel so much, just about changed in each *street*.
