    3. Dear Friends, Seeing the postings about Brass Bands reminded me that my mother's father, Fred. WHITE born c. 1896 - 1961, used to play in a town band in the Southampton area, he was a tram conductor for Southampton Corporation. I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge of the bands in Southampton at that time. Did the Corporation have its own band perhaps? Thank you. Best wishes, Chris. Gibbins.

    3. Hi Chris. I don't know about Southampton Corporation. I believe you will find that, most Cities & Towns have or had a Brass Band at sometime or other. The Salvo's are a good example of this. Your grandfather would have indulged for pleasure & relaxation. Nowadays, the cost of running & maintaining a Band is exorbitant. It baffles me when they say'We fought the war for freedom'. As we destroy the very thing we are fighting for.
