Graham, You were kind enough to send me this information last year. You probably forgot. Elizabeth GAILER (Gayler) is my gx3 grandmother. She married George HINTON. Martha GAWLER married James HINTON who was the brother of George. I think that they are the forefathers of the HINTON name in and around Christchurch after 1800. There were HINTONs in Christchurch before 1800 but I don't know if there is any connection to them. George and James HINTON came from Wilton, Wiltshire and settled in Christchurch. George was a tailor and James was a carpenter. Joseph HINTON, son of James, married Ann BURRY and many of their children married and stayed around. I am trying to go in the other direction and find out more about Ann CUTLER and her family pre 1775 in Christchurch. I have lots of information on the HINTONs and Ann CUTLER is proving to be one of my brick walls. I don't know whether anyone has tried this site for a name count: http://www.taliesin-arlein.net/names/search.php This is what turns up. GAWLER=378 GAILER= 84 GAYLER= 539 HINTON=7218 CUTLER=7032 There aren't too many GAWLER/GAILER/GAYLER names around today. On the other hand, the number one ranking SMITH has 652563 occurrences.
