Hi Helena. Highcliffe was built in the 1830's by Lord Stuart de Rothesay. It replaced High Cliff, a Georgian Mansion, of which a few ruins remain. Highcliffe Castle is open to visitors. Highcliffe-on Sea now is in Dorset , near Christchurch, but was previously in Hampshire Now to add a little confusion, there is also Highclere Castle seat of the Earl of Carnarvon, near Newbury on the Hampshire border. You can see pictures of both through google. Thanks to everyone for the response. I gather it is ruined and almost no longer exists, but Chris has a colour photo of it on his website. Chris - can you lend me that photo for inclusion in my book please? Helena It is still there and has a lot of work done on it, far from being a ruin it is open to the public and is quite a popular visitors place. And weddings are held there. Go to http://www.highcliffecastle.co.uk/Highcliffe_Castle_History.htm Here you will find the history, timeline and a lot more information Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: "hastings press" <hastings.press@virgin.net> To: <hampshire-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 31, 2007 7:49 AM Subject: Re: [HAMPSHIRE-LIFE] HIGHCLIFFE HOUSE Thanks to everyone for the response.
