    3. I think there may be some confusion here............ The topic about accents is about just that accents, and nobody is condemning race, creed or religion. It is just the differences between the accents that can be found in the local communities or our countries. As David Parker and Tony have both said it benefits the communities. 3. Hi, I just had a look at Hampshire CC and wondered what my father, who died in 1972, would have said about getting cricket stats from the Internet. All his information came from Wisdens, which I still have collecting dust on the bookshelf. His brother, also a great lover of cricket, requested that his ashes be spread over the Belbroughton Village cricket grounds (in Worcs) after he died last year. We do visit Winchester records when we can, but the Tedworth connection is a little more elusive at the moment. Regards Emily

    3. Did I not read somewhere of a comment by some Anglo Saxons bemoaning the fact that Normans had moved into their village and were calling themselves 'locals"? The English are a hybrid lot that have benefitted from the process. Hybridisation can be good. Without hybridisation we would not have the magnificence of, for example, David Austin's English Roses. In the Parliamentary Riding/constituency in which I live in Toronto, with some 114,000 people, there are 48 different languages listed as the "Mother Tongue" in the recent census.. Some of the most gifted and qualified "Canadians " are Refugees and Landed Immigrants. The world is changing, and a hankering for the past will do little but to make the change more painful. Accept the reality and make it benefit you and your community. 3. Hi, We have it the same here in Canada. I remember a few years ago being amazed when two oriental girls were chattering away in French. I should not have been surprised as French is the main language of Quebec. Then seeing that China has so many languages of its own, perhaps for these girls -- the French language was the great equalizer. Ken and I were in Venice looking in the shops (I dragged him there) this man and the owner of the shop were talking in Italian. The fellow said "chiao" and left but as he stepped outside, he met one of his pals. Those two continued in Liverpudlian.
