    1. [HantsLife] The Gazette on line
    2. Chris & Caroline
    3. The " TIMES" to-day reports that the first phase of Gazettes-Online will be launched this month. The Stationery Office is working to place the London Gazette, the Edinburgh Gazette, and the Belfast Gazette online. These are official publications, "Published by Authority" which list all sorts of Official notices, including awards of medals and decorations, appointments, obituaries, bankruptcy notices etc, etc, dating back to1665. The first release covers the two world wars and 20th Century honours and awards. The next phase will include the rest of the 20th Century editions. In total the London Gazette consists of 56,000 editions [two million pages], and the article in the Times says that the site will have a search facility so that family historians will be able to check awards of gallantry medals, promotion of officers, changes of name, or naturalisation of an ancestor simply by typing in a surname. The site is www.gazettes-online.co.uk but do not all rush, it might turn out to be like the 1901 census!! Chris and Caroline --- All of our Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. This means it is wild guesswork by some individual, not based on fact but on possibility, because the person has some later association with christchurch. It has not been checked and should not be treated as hard information at all. The usual source for this is that the person named was married there, and is therefore guessed to have been born there a set number of years before. The only unusual feature is that the deduction for a female is usually 21 years (for a male, 25). -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society

    3. Eve, Thanks very much for this. I thought I was getting closer to finding Ann CUTLER's birth but my hopes have been dashed :-(( Perhaps I could resolve this if I looked in the Christchurch PRs around 1750. Then I'd know if it was fact or fiction. 1. [HantsLife] 1861 census
    2. Hello all, I wonder if anyone is in possession of the 1861 census covering Fawley in Hampshire, and would be willing to do a look-up for me. I'm looking for James and Anna White, their children George B1844, William B1847 and John B1849 . All the children were born in Fawley. There maybe more children but haven't traced anymore at the moment. Thanks for your help. Sheila

    1. [HantsLife] Ann CUTLER circa 1750 Christchurch, Hampshire
    2. Susan Moziar
    3. Hi, I just checked the IGI and found a record for the marriage of Ann CUTLER to Peter GAWLER in 1777 in Christchurch, Hampshire. There is a new format now and the birth for Ann CUTLER was given as "About 1750 Christchurch, Hampshire, England". It went on to say that this had been submitted by someone in the LDS Church. I have not seen this IGI entry previously and I have looked lots of time. I'm just wondering why an exact date for Anne's birth is not given. This is the person I am interested in. Can anyone advise? Thanks Susan in Guelph P. S. Happy belated birthday to Caroline!

    3. Dear Moya and All Gee Moya , we live here and haven't had a drop of the good stuff yet. Did you notice that the powers that be have cancelled the fireworks in Sydney and Melbourne for Australia Day. This is the best thing that could happen in the current bushfire climate, but it would be even better if they would donate the cost of the fireworks to a suitable charity. Anyhow let us celebrate the English invasion of the "Terra Australis" while we can. 1. [HantsLife] HOAD/WHITTINGTON Marriage about 1860
    2. Libby
    3. I'm hoping that someone can help me find the marriage of Daniel Hoad, born about 1840, Horndean Hampshire and Mary Ann Whittington, born about 1841, Rowlands Castle, Hampshire I expect they were married around 1859/60 as there first son Frederick J. was born about 1862, Rowlands Castle, Hampshire. Any assistance with this family would be most appreciated. I am also trying to locate their dates of birth in the above parishes. Thanks again.... 3. That was an impressive number of greetings, Caroline, although Hallmark could be getting a little concerned, as under a third were regular cards. I received at my recent birthday, 6 cards, 1 e-card and 1 e-mail, and a letter from Linda & Tony, who sent me something for my birthday, not realising that it was my birthday. 2. Chris & Caroline
    3. Well the New Year has come and what a start!! War, fires, floods and lots more doom and gloom to keep us all on our toes. At present we have 215 subscribers to the L list and 104 to the digest, so where are you all? ---------------------------------------- We would like to welcome Seamus back from his hospital stay and hope that he is in fine form again, he was sadly(?) missed and going by the quips and remarks is a popular addition to the list!!! ----------------------------------------- Seems like one or two of our subscribers have become grandparents for the first time so hope you keep those family records handy! And well maintained. ----------------------------------------- People have been emailing us saying that they are not getting the postings, this we are sorry to say is beyond our control and nine times out of ten it is the subscribers own ISP that is causing it, as Rootsweb just forwards the postings that come in. But they have had one or two server problems and one or two of you found yourselves unsubbed due to this. But the most prolific unsubbing comes from people not emptying their mail boxes, if you go away for a few days and get a lot of email in then unsubscribe till you get back then you can always catch up by visiting the archives. All digest subscribers can retrieve Digests from the e-mail accessible archives. Just send a message To: HAMPSHIRE_LIFE-D-request@rootweb.com with a Subject heading ARCHIVE In the body of the message put just the lines get volume03/nn quit Where "nn" is the number of the volume you wish to retrieve. ------------------------------ Our website SOUTHERN LIFE(UK) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~villages Has now got a total of 1,418 villages and towns for you to explore and a couple have virtual tours, Southampton and Guildford so there is no excuse for not knowing what your grandparents home was like!! The site covers not only Hampshire but, Berkshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire and we would like to thank Maureen Shannon and Vicki Turner for their help in transcribing some of the villages for us. Without their help we would still be halfway up the M3 to Surrey!!! But we are always glad of photos or text to add to the pages!! ---------------------------------------------- Well not much happening here, snow on the way it seems, makes a change from rain I suppose!!! So good luck in your researches and many thanks for all the support you give us. REMEMBER ITS YOUR LIST!!!! Chris and Caroline --- All of our Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
