    3. Hi Bazzer, I don't know if he is buried there but there is a memorial plaque to Charles Valentine Clark, Second class passenger aged 29 at the church of St Peter and St Paul, Wymering. My book says Wymering is in Sussex, but I know that it is in Hants. My other book says that he came from Grange Lane, Netley and boarded the Titanic at Southampton. Obviously, he may have been one of those whose bodies were never found. Yours Vicki Turner

    1. [HantsLife] Liquor measures
    2. Chris & Caroline
    3. Thought this might amuse some of you, it was sent in by David Parker Chris and Caroline Is this how "the pint" came about? Dear Gentlemen: I couldn't resist this one, either. Is this how the "pint" came about? "Earl Roberts and soldiers' drinking," Inverness Courier, Nov. 18, 1902, p. 5c. "On Saturday the following order was issued on War Office authority: -- 'It was been brought to the notice of the Commander-in-Chief that a practice prevails in many canteens of serving malt liquors in large measures, from which parties of soldiers drink together. Earl Roberts is of opinion that such a practice tends to induce habits of excessive drinking, and therefore directs that in future malt liquor is not to be served in canteens in any larger measure than a pint. An alteration in the 'Rules for the management of refreshment branches of garri- son and regimental institutes,' giving effect to the above order, will shortly be issued, but in the meantime the above instructions are to be acted upon. Earl Roberts is further of opinion that the introduction of glass measures containing half-a-pint and one pint, instead of the cans now in general use, would conduce to the comfort of the men, and directs that their introduction should be gradually effected as funds permit.'" --- All of our Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 2. Paul Eggleton
    3. Hi Sheila, I looked at the free BMD to see if they had it but apparently the server is too busy dealing with other requests. I am not surprised - this site now has so many records that more and more people are on it. However, it's 5.25 p.m. here in L.A. which is 1.25 Sunday morning in the U.K. - The server was fine last week - at this non-peak time I'm surprised. Maybe they are doing tests. I hope we don't get into the same situation as the 1901 census. Anyway, try freebmd.rootsweb.com - otherwise try the general records or an LDS site. Did the IGI have a regular batch number - e.g. C followed by 6 numbers? If so it shoudl be correct but if it doesn't it means it has been sent in by someone and you need to treat it suspiciously. Paul StockerTHESHE@aol.com wrote: I've found a record in the IGI of my great, great grandfather George White, born 1844 in Fawley, Hampshire. When I looked at the GRO indexes for that year I can't find the record, therefore am unable to obtain the birth certificate. 3. Not too sure on this Ron But Legacy is the programme that I use and they have a quick and helpful support service. Just click the HELP button and you should find support in there. They also do a great newsletter every two weeks and it is worth subscribing to it as they bring up loads of issues that can be done with the progamme in step-by-step stages.
