    3. I am obviously older than many of you, for at that time -1953- I was in the Army in Germany. I do know specifically to what you are referring. Moya. but February 1953 was the time of the floods in Canvey in which 307 people were killed. My fathe, who was working at HMS Daedalus, Lee-on-Solent, was involved in the evacuation and rescue efforts in Canvey using DUKWS. The unit to which I was attached in Delmenhorst also sent mem to help in the rescue in Holland, where 1835 people drowned. Somehow I do not think that my answer is what you were looking for, but it brought back a few memories to me. 1. [HantsLife] Adoption?
    2. Dorothy Morrissey
    3. Hi folks I have a birth certificate for a male, Henry Robert Williams GILLY, born in Southampton in 1860 who then disappears without trace. He does not appear with his mother's family in 1881. However I have found someone on the 1881 census with a similar name (Henry M GILLEY) who appears nowhere else - no birth record, etc. He is the right age (plus/minus a year) and says he was born in Portsmouth though I can find no record of anybody of that surname having been there. He is in the Navy at 1881. I am wondering if it is possible that he was given up for adoption or to an orphanage at birth, never knew his middle names or where he was really born. Does anyone know of a likely place that might have taken him in 1860? Thanks for any help (By the way - shock! horror! Heard a rumour today that they are closing all the LDS centres in NZ except those in the four main centres. Can this be true? How can they do this to us? Aaarghh!) 3. Hi Vicki and Roger. The Trusty Servant inn has existed in the villiage of Minstead, Hants for most of this century. This is in the parish of Minstead and not Lyndhurst P. On the other hand the hamlet of Bank lies in the parish of Lyndhurst about 3 miles to the SW of the town of Lyndhurst. Wadwick is not actually a part of St.Marybourne. It has it's own signpost!! It is at the end of a small lane which is between St.Marybourne, Binley and Egbury. It is a dead end with just a couple of houses and a farm at the end of it. Check it out on the OS Map Explorer 144 Basingstoke Alton and Whitchurch. 43, 53 or Long 1deg 23min, Lat 51deg 16.5min. There are some really nice walks around there. Right now the trees are in bud, the catkins hanging delicately from the trees and there are long patches of frothy white where the Hawthorn is in flower. The fields are starting to show green, all the daffodils are coming out at the manor house at Binley. There's a bank nearby which becomes yellow with Cowslips, the woods will soon be carpeted with bluebells and the primroses will smother the banks along side the road and into the woods. There are deer, pheasants, rabbits and hares to be seen and if you're really lucky the occasional fox to be seen. To make it even more delightful the sheep in the fields around will soon have their lambs and they are always a delight to watch. It really is a lovely area. I take my mum and an elderly friend round there most weeks at this time of the year, especially when the sun is out as it's so lovely I'll probably be around that way in the next few days so will check it out. Thank you for that lovely mental picture Bev - when I win the lottery I will be buying one of those farms!!! Although Road Whale from Andover, says it is very muddy in the winter - so I will have a house in Andover as well for that time!!!!! I asked about the hamlet originally because I was doing a lookup for someone off-list and when listing where people were born, I came upon Wadwick. I looked in my gazetteer and it wasn't listed, so checked Chris' site and still did not find it. Tony and Linda soon put me right though, as it is listed on Chris' site under Binley and Wadwick. It sounds really lovely .Thanks also for your very kind offer to photograph but I think the lady is just delighted to have found nephews and nieces of her direct line. However, Chris might be very pleased to put them up on his Southern Life web site as some delightful spring pictures of such a lovely little hamlet. Especially as he is still "confined to barracks" for a few more weeks and cannot get out and about round the villages himself. Also I am now very eager to see this pretty place bedecked in spring flowers. I can take some pics if whoever's looking for it mails me. Best wishes Bev

    3. Best wishes, Moya Page (nee Banting) researching BANTING and PERREN in Hampshire . ----- Original Message ----- From: Beverley Wadhams To: HAMPSHIRE-LIFE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, March 22, 2003 10:00 AM Subject: [HantsLife] Wadwick - where to find it. 1. [HantsLife] Help to many Whites
    2. Hello All, i apologise for asking for help for this family once again, but im really struggling with my WHITE family branches. I have, thanks to You wonderful people, now got a full family picture of George and Martha WHITE from Greywell but i am stuck with George's Parents. I found what i believe could be George WHITE'S parents, Thomas WHITE and Mary LOVELOCK married 11th January 1790, but i wouldn't know how to go about looking for their children. On the other hand i have a cousin who says George WHITE and Harriett LAMB married 3rd September 1797, needs looking into, There was defiantly a George and Harriett somewhere in he family, If any one can do me a look up for either of these couple i would be so very grateful just so i could try and fit the siblings i have in with siblings anyone can find with their respective parents. A very big thank you goes out to all that have helped me already, without you all my family tree would still be very much a sapling. Suzanne Harrup Researching WATTS, WHITE, YATES.
