    3. Few Coroners' records survive. The Gibson Guide on the subject indicates that there are none for this period. The inquest may have been reported in newspapers. At this period, the most likely would be Hampshire Chronicle, Salisbury & Winchester Journal, Hampshire Advertiser, Hampshire Independent [Southampton], Portsmouth/Hampshire Telegraph. It must have gone to the County Coroners Court, because the Coroner for Hampshire was the informant. Does anyone on the list know where I could find the records of the County Coroner. Any information would be gratefully received. Jackie in Alton, Hampshire.

    3. Hello Jackie and Everybody, I have been looking for a Coroner's report for fifteen years regarding an Earwaker on my wife's tree. He was killed when he was run over by a cart. In that case the Coroner was also the informant on the death certificate. Unfortunately, it appears very few Coroner's records survive for Hampshire but you might strike lucky and find a report of an inquest in a local newspaper, they were sometimes reported. I hope you succeed. Rod in Andover.

Message From: "Chris & Caroline" Subject: [HantsLife] SOUTHERN LIFE(UK) - site updates ALLBROOK- photographs added REDBRIDGE - photographs added ROWNHAMS - photographs added ~~~~~~~~ Thankyou for these, Chris. Enjoyed seeing Redbridge & Rownhams again. For 5 yrs I passed through Redbridge 5 days a wk on may way to & from school in Totton & home in Southampton. We used to go bike riding along the very rural Rownhams Lane, gathering blackberries for jam or pies & wood for the fireplace. It's hard to believe that this lane is now a very busy main route from Southampton to Winchester. I think it's a 4-lane highway, isn't it? A sister of my Romsey-born Grandpa used to work the tiny village store/sub post office almost opposite the lovely wee St John's Church for years. Thanx for the memories. M, NZ

    3. Dear Friends, I am re-posting this note as I have been having problems with bounced and missing mail, so if any kind soul did reply and have not heard from me I do apologise, may I ask you to try again using my new address. My old one is still in use as well.. Thank you mailto:cmgibbins@tiscali.co.uk I am looking for the birth / bapt of George BOYCE c. 1806, he died at Four Posts aged 24 and was buried 25 Apr 1830. Is he the George that married Caroline PICKETT on 3 Jan 1830, is he the posthumous father of George bapt 21 Nov 1830? I could not find his bapt. when I visited Southampton Civic Centre last year and now believe he could be the George born in 1806 to Benjamin BOYCE and Hannah PENNEY of Eling. Malcolm Boyes who is doing a one name study and Glenn Boyes have helped me get this far. So did George 1806 stay in Eling or did he move up the road to Millbrook? He is not shown to be deceased on the younger George's marriage certificate, trade was shoemaker. I would welcome your thoughts on this puzzle. Thank you. I have their descendants to share should anyone have links to this family. Best wishes, Chris.

    3. (This was sent in by Wenda Mintrum who has problems with her emails at present, please send all replies to Wenda at wenda.mintrum@dial.pipex.com Chris and Caroline) ---------------------------------------------- Would SVKS, who might be visiting the HRO in the near future, be able to check a couple of parish register entries for me? I would be VERY grateful. (Visiting the HRO from Devon is not very easy!) I am trying to confirm the parentage, particularly mothers, of: CHARLES MINTRAM - who married Harriet Sampson on 7th August 1880 - Otterbourne Parish CHurch & ALFRED ROBERT MINTRAM - married Ann Selina Cooper 16th June 1877 - St Boniface CHurch, 'Nutshalling' (Nursling) Father of both was George Mintram. I only have one George in the right area/time span, but occupation details on certificates are 'conflicting', and as far as I know ALfred Robert did not have a brother Charles. 1. [HantsLife] Recommendation of help
    2. Derek&Maureen
    3. Hi all With regard to my search re finding out what/where St Hilliers is/was, I e-mailed city.information@southampton.gov.uk, an address Chris had given the list ages ago. I have had tremendous success with them. They in turn passed my enquiry on to local.studies@southampton.gov.uk & they left no stone unturned in getting as many references for ma as possible. They are even going to send me a photocopy of the 1940s map, by snail mail, despite the fact that I'm so far away from Southampton. They have been marvellous & are every bit as good as Ray Hancock & Joanne Smith at Southampton City Archives so don't be shy about e-mailing for help. You've got nothing to lose but possibly stand to gain a heck of a lot. Happy hunting, everyone. Maureen, NZ

    2. Dorothy Morrissey
    3. When I asked the Channel Islands list if anyone knew of a Reverend GILLEY at the Rectory of St Mary, someone threw it back to Hampshire: "THERE USE TO BE A HOTEL OWNED BY A GILLEY FAMILY IN ABT 1950 - 70 's IN SOUTHAMPTON, HAMPSHIRE , UK . ADDRESS : ? HOTEL , HIGHFIELD LANE , SOUTHAMPTON. Junction of Shaftsbury Avenue . Very close to the Portswood shops. NOT at the top of Highfield Lane , where there is a pub called the Highfield Hotel." Does this ring any bells with anyone? Dorothy M Whakatane, NZ http://mobile.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo!
