I am transcribing the Upper Clatford Parish Record and I cannot be sure of the writing - could it be Shayer Road, Shirley or possibly Thayer or Shager Road. Possibly someone out there knows the person : William GODWIN, a policeman. I would like to get this address right, so please help if you can. 1. [HantsLife] Visit to Hamsphire
    2. Mike & Sheila
    3. Hi Listers Mike and I have just booked our flight to England departing Australia on the 15th July, and planned to visit Visit Hampshire to do some family research. I have just found out that this coincides with the school holidays. The villages we plan to visit are Vernham Dean, St Mary Bourne, and Andover, does anyone know if these areas have bed and breakfasts, or where I may be able to find details of such. As we will be there during the school holiday period, I would need to book something before we depart rather than wait until we get there. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. 3. Hi Sheila & Mike try searching on http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/shs.html, it is an excellent accommodation web site & shows location maps, which are scaleable It lists accommodation in Andover, which is a large town, but nothing specifically in Vernham Dean, which is about 12 km north of Andover, or St Mary Bourne, (about 10km north west). It would probably be a good idea to base yourself in or around Andover and travel out. Another site which appears to have a fair few listings for the Andover area is http://www.needabreak.com/ Enjoy your trip Ros >Hi Listers > >Mike and I have just booked our flight to England departing Australia on >the 15th July, and planned to visit Visit Hampshire to do some family >research. 3. To show surprise or disbelief, my Hampshire hoggies would say "Well, blow me up a gas pipe!". Then there was something about being up a gum tree. My forgetful grandpa would always say "Oh, cawed lummy Charlie!" when he couldn't remember things. I suspect 'cawed' (whatever that was!) was probably meant to be 'gawd', a euphemism for God. 3. hello all Does anyone have access to the parish records for Baughurst, please? I am trying to find out whether a Charles ENGLEFIELD married Patience (maiden name unknown) there about 1856. Charles was born in Mapledurham Oxon and the couple had all their children there, and died there, but I cannot find a marriage for them in Mapledurham. On the 1881 census Patience's birthplace was recorded as Baughurst 1834, so I am wondering if they married there, or maybe at Tadley. Thanks to anyone who can help. Yours Vicki Turner
