Any lister with links/knowledge of Arthur Alexander Mansbridge, transported to NSW 1800's.
Any lister with links/knowledge of Mansbridge/Collis families, Micheldever, 1881 census?
Hi Adele We did put out feelers in NZ and had about 16 family fly over for one of airmen. One member was his brother, very emotional. He was able to see where his brother had died and meet the man (aged 90) who pulled him out of the plane. We also made sure the NZ flag was on view. The family very kindly gave me a lovely picture of Mount Taranaki. Looks beautiful, lucky you living in NZ. Di
At times over the past couple of months I have been so down. My son said 'If you build it, they will come' and so it was a Field of Dreams. More than 200 people turned up from all over the world. A very young air cadet carried the memorial book into Church, followed by the Vicar and then the standards, each with their own escort. There were too many people to sit down and they stood in the aisles and outside the Church. We sang some hymns, had some readings, read the Roll of Honour (at which point my husband cried - along with about 200 other people). We processed outside where the Military Marching Band led the standards and us down to the cemetery. Gosh, I felt so priviliged as I walked behind that band and those standards surrounded by veterans with their medals gleaming. We had wanted them and the standard bearers to be transported - we had laid on a mini bus - but no, they marched every step of the way. I think every armed force was represented and nearly every nationality. We had relatives from New Zealand and Poland and every part of the UK. The Police lined the way and stood to attention and saluted as the standards went past them. It was just incredibly emotional. After the dedication of the memorial, the last post was played, the standards lowered, a lone voice read We shall not grow old and then silence followed by reveille. The standards slowly raised. Finally the lone Lancaster appeared - flew over our heads and turned to the woods where the Lancaster went down near my house. He turned virtually on his side so his wings were vertical and came round in a tight loop right over the crash site. Then they levelled off and flew over our heads and went round the other way to take in the other crash sites. Then we heard the engines and the Lanc appeared over the top of the trees. He flew slowly over us and waggled his wings. At that point every single person was ! in tears. What a fitting tribute to the brave men who gave their lives for us. There were more brave men with chestfuls of medals and tears streaming down their faces. It is a day I will never forget and I feel so priviliged to have been part of it. Thge TV cameras recorded the event and New Zealand relatives of a crewman met the man who pulled their loved one out of the plane. Then we had a buffet reception and these new found friends went off the site to see where F/sgt Rowe was killed. F/sgt Rowes brother had travelled all the way from NZ just to see this and say goodbye. I went to the memorial today to look at the wreaths and there were lots of little bunches of flowers that villagers and passers by were placing round it as well. When we said We Will Remember - we meant it! Di

I'm hoping someone can help me sort out a family of TURNERs in Kingsclere/Bishops Sutton. I found Daniel TURNER b. 1804 Childrey, Berks on the 1861 Census living in Shrewton, Wiltshire. With him was his wife Mary b. abt 1805 Chute, Wiltshire and his daughter Hannah LEVERSUCH b. abt 1832 in Ecckingswell, Hampshire and two of her children. Assuming that Hannah was Hannah TURNER, there is a baptism for Hannah TURNER b. 15 Jan 1832 in Kingsclere, Hampshire - very close to Ecckingswell. I used the IGI and I found 10 children born to Daniel and Mary TURNER in Kingsclere and Bishops Sutton. The years range from 1828 to 1844. I'm thinking that the date of baptism/birth for Hannah TURNER matches the 1861 Census and the IGI. There is also a marriage of Daniel TURNER to Mary IVALL on 27 November 1832 in Bishops Sutton, Hampshire. Even though this marriage is after the first child in 1828, it is a strong possibility. But I cannot understand why Mary's place of birth is Chute, Wiltshire. I'm wondering if (a) I have it all wrong (b) Daniel married a second time to someone named Mary. Daniel is my 3xgreat uncle and I am trying to piece together the TURNERs of Childrey, Berkshire. This one seems to have strayed from home. So if anyone can enlighten me with a lookup on the 1851 Census or Parish Records, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Susan

Thanks for this I had a quick look and found a photograph of Burley post office which is where one of my relations used to be post mistress (according to another family member). Certainly worth a look, though most of the photos appear to be recent. G'day, I've been researching my maternal great grandmother's family, Heath, for some time now & at this stage I'm a bit lost. My GGGrandfather was William Heath c1833 - 18/3/1906. He was described as a master cabinet maker of 102 Queen St Twyford. He was also an amateur artist & photographer. I'm lucky enough to have inherited 3 of his paintings & a number of his photos. His 1st wife was Kate Mary Louisa Sophia Howard Packer c1836 - 24/11/1868. Their 6th child was my GGrandmother Mary Howard Heath 4/2/1864 - 21/3/1947. I believe that William's parents were William & Sarah. Kate's father was a George Packer who died on 27/6/1860. William & Kate's 1st child was Clara Louisa 7/9/1855 - 23/8/1916. Clara was a keen photographer, I have a number of her photos & note that some of the Twyford photos on the Southern Life site are very like ones that Clara took. According to Clara's obituary notice the family had been described as having been Twyford residents for around 200 years, with strong connections to St Mary's. Is anyone researching this family or does anyone have some clues as to where I should refocus mine? regards from Rob in the Antipodes
