    3. Thank you to David Parker on his input on Edward Heath... I enjoyed reading it thank you very much.... People can comment on others, but have they met them personally, talked to them.. reckon if they had, their opinions would be entirely different. I stood for local Council last year... am rather pleased that I did not get sufficient votes, as you have to tow the line... not be outspoken like I am known to be... but I accepted the challenge which the locals put before me.. they asked me to stand.. give it a go... we need some one like you.. a stirrer.. someone who can speak their own mind.. I was very surprised that the locals actually confronted me, and said, please stand... it was a good fight... but must admit.. rather pleased I did not get on.. and wont stand again!! Adele

    3. David & Adele. "People can comment on others, but have they met them personally, talked to them.. reckon if they had, their opinions would be entirely different." I did not know Hitler, Mussolini, Hirohito, Stalin or Lord Haw-Haw either, but that didn't stop me from disliking them. I didn't like Edward Heath, to me he looked slimy, & was deceitful & unforgiving of those that disagreed with him. (ie. Enoch Powell & Margaret Thatcher) Churchill was the first post war politician to suggest rebuilding and trading with Europe. But, he was against joining with them as economic partners. Just like you I am allowed to express my opinions. 3. A few thoughts about the late The Rt Hon. Sir Edward Heath KG He supported the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War against Fascist Franco He supported the anti-appeasement candidate in a 1938 by-election He came from a working class background - his father was a carpenter and his mother a lady's maid. He rose to the rank of Lt Col in WWll in the HAC receiving the military MBE and was mentioned in dispatches, fighting in France, Belgium and Holland. He sacked Powell after his "rivers of blood" speech He won the 1969 Sydney to Hobart race, captained Britain's 1971 Admiral's Cup team and was part of the 1980 Sardinia Cup Team He was the first "elected" leader of Tory party He conducted the LSO and other prestigious orchestras As to the matter of the European Union. His application was not Britain's first, it was the third application to join. The two previous applications, by McMillan and Wilson in 1963 and 1967, to join being rejected by Europe largely as a result of De Gaulle's opposition. A subsequent Labour government held a referendum which endorsed the decision to join. 2. Hi list I wondered if anyone could help me please. I am looking for a George Sherman born 1858 in Vernham Dean on the 1881 census and I cannot find him anywhere, he is not with his parents or with any brothers or sister, I have even tried different spellings of his surname but no luck. If any one could help it would be most appreciated. Regards Sue

    3. This came of another list I think it sums up the patriotic pride I once knew. English Pride You come to place your bags of hate On bus and train, you made us late Yet we'll be back again tomorrow We'll carry on despite our sorrow Your bags of hate caused some to die Yet we stride out strong with heads held high You'll never win, we will not bow You can't defeat us, you don't know how This London which we love with pride Is a town where scum like you can't hide Don't worry we will hunt you down Then Lock you up in name of Crown We're London and we're many races Just look you'll see our stoic faces We all condemn your heinous act You will not win and that's a fact We'll mourn our dead and shed a tear But we will not bow to acts of fear You're out there somewhere all alone There's nowhere now you can call home Olympics ours we've won the race Your timing then a real disgrace Our strength you'll find remains unbowed We're English and we're very proud.
