Biddlecombe Family Search - who is out there - Hi!, my name is Len Payne, I am looking for family links for the Biddlecombe family. My great grandfather was Charles Arthur Biddlecombe believed to be from Leicester (1860 - 1950), he had a son Reginald Arthur Charles Biddlecombe, who was lost on the Titanic (1880 - 1912), he was married to Emily Mintrum who bore him four children, Reginald Roland Victor (1900 - 1969), Christopher Percy, (1902 - 1970), and twins Charles Wilfred (1904 - 1948) and Eudora Winifred (1904 - 1973). They resided in the Shirley area of Southampton. In or about 1906 Reginald left his wife Emily and formed an alliance with my grandmother, Ethel Payne, whose husband Robert Payne had died. As a result of their common law relationship, my father Leonard Payne, was born in 1908. They continued to live together until the Titanic disaster. My grandmother remarried Frederick Warn, and had another six children under that name. My father had an elder brother Harold Payne by my grandmothers first union. I have traced my immediate cousin Christopher Biddlecombe, born 1932, who was the son of Christopher Percy Biddlecombe. I would like to find out more about my great grandfather Charles Arthur Biddlecombe, as well as my grandmothers first husband Robert Payne. I am aware there are several descendants of the Biddlecombe family living in the Leicester and Southampton area. All research I have undertaken for both Payne and Biddlecomb(e) have encountered the unscalable "brick wall", especially for Robert Payne who doesn't seem to have existed, although there are numerous descendants of his son Harold Payne, my fathers step brother, living in the Fair Oak/Bishopstoke area as well as in Southampton. The search for my great grandfather poses another problem, my cousin Christopher, the son of Christopher Percy Biddlecombe, assures me that he was born in Leicester in 1860 and died in 1950 in Southampton. Subsequent research in the Church of Latter Day Saints records of the 1881 census however shows Arthur Biddlecomb(e) aged 24, birthplace Bramshaw, Hampshire, married to M.J. Biddlecomb(e) aged 26, birthplace Wellow, Hampshire, a daughter Ida A. Biddlecomb(e), aged 6 years, birthplace Wellow, Hampshire and Reginald A. Biddlecomb(e) aged 10 months, birthplace Canada, Wiltshire. At this time the family was residing at Wilsford, Wiltshire. There the trail ends, any help will be appreciated.
Hi Ian My husbands great grandmother was Elizabeth MIST born about 1847 in Fordingbridge, Hampshire ( not yet checked at HRO, information from 1881 census). I believe she married George RICHMAN born 1847 Trowbridge, Wiltshire in Bath December quarter 1869. They lived in Bradford upon Avon, Wilts, where they had approximately 8 children. Do you think there is a connection to your family? Regards Deirdre in a very warm and sunny Romsey, Hampshire. ======================================== Message Received: Aug 16 2005, 09:49 AM From: "Ian & Ros Bryant" To: [email protected] Cc: Subject: [HantsLife] Bryants and Mists I'm still searching for any BRYANT, BRIANT OR MIST family members with connections to Fordingbridge, Godshill, Woodgreen or thereabouts. I have on loan at present, a book which features DAYSH family they came from Wickham. Hampshire to settle here in NZ John Ings Daysh married Eliza Clark at St. Nicholas Church Wickham in 1832. They sailed on the Gertrude from Gravesend June 19 1841. So amongst the very early settlers to NZ> 6 children came with them. and a further 8 born in Hutt (area not far from Wellington as we know it today) John died aged 97. (1902) He is buried in Masterton. Wairarapa His wife Eliza died aged 63. (1870) she is buried at Taita. So many of our early settlers come down through this family... and many are buried here at Clareville Cemetery where I am researching into Early Settlers.. Gaskin from Marden. Kent. A Daysh married a Gaskin.. Rayner. Croad.Maybee.Southee.Harris.Sage.Knowles.Burling.... the list is endless... I wonder if any family still living around Wickham? See I have my work cut out...its one way of learing the local history, if not the founding fathers of New Zealand.. It so interesting to learn where the early settlers came from.. I am thoroughly enjoying this project, from the Cemetery up! I would love to write a book one day, on the buried up here at Clareville, it would make such interesting reading... if this book is anything to go by.. Adele Pentony-Graham Carterton. NZ
I introduced this to Tasman site the other year... its one way for all of us to know who is looking for what!! So come on, shake your feathers... tell all!! I am just a bystander!! Adele Researching Early Settlers to Carterton.NZ.. oh yes some came from Hampshire...
Good morning fellow researchers My main interest at this point in time is BELLINGER. They originated in Withington, Gloucester but in the late 1800 or early 1900 they moved to Southampton. My grandfather tried his own business as a greengrocer I believe but was unable to make a success of it. He subsequently emigrated to Canada. My question I suppose is...... Is there any way I can find out about the shop and can I find out where the grandparents were buried. I believe it was in Fleet but am not sure. Margaret Maria died in Nov. 1943 and Bernard Cleverley in 1945. This is just an off chance query since we are quiet. Regards Ellie -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
