Do you mean this one? In the baptism register circa 1822: Of 72 marriages in the last 10 years ending 1820, not less than 69 females have been unchaste before marriage. Those who gain husbands are more fortunate than those who bear bastards, but not more virtuous. J Monkhouse Alan McGowan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lesley C. Lynne, My website http://website.lineone.net/~hantshistory has links to several photographs of Newton Valence Church. There is also a link to the on-line Hampshire Record Office Catalogue. You can list the parish records of Newton Valence by searching for Finding No 33M66. This was sent to me by May Lanchbury and thought I would share it with you all. Chris The Story Tellers....we are the chosen... or why I am so fascinated ("obsessed") with Genealogy My feelings are in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do? It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them; so we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, Because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones. Author Unknown
Hi , Interested to hear from anybody researching ADAMS AYLWARD CATE COLLIER GILBERT PRIOR LIPSCOMBE Thanks, Lynne.
Am looking for any connections to my WOODS / ROGERS family at Alton, Hants. They were my Aunt and Uncle. At St. Lawrence Church, Alton, Hants. on January 22 / 1927 Edwin Harry ROGERS [Ted] born in 1890, son of Thomas William ROGERS, and Louisa WOODS, born 1897, daughter of John WOODS. They had no children. They lived at Alton, until their deaths, on a short street in the area which is now occupied by the Police Station. Am most interested in the WOODS family. Louisa's sister lived next door to them but I can't recall her name. Regards, Pam, originally from Aldershot.
Forwarded to list from ----- Original Message ----- From: Diane Rutherford [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, October 24, 2005 1:53 PM Subject: Hampshire Names : BURT Researching my paternal line, BURT. The latest 3 generations were from Totton but my great grandparents, married in Southampton, both listed addresses in Upper Banister Street, Southampton. He was Richard Thomas BURT( born 1842) and according to the marriage certificate, his father was Charles. They must have moved to Totton shortly after the wedding as I believe all their children were born there and he is buried at Eling. I have not been able to trace any further evidence of Charles who was probably born around 1810-1820. Any help much appreciated, Diane

Can i have some ideas on what programme to use for all my research please At the moment its everywhere!!! Thanks Adrian
When posting your interests to the list a good idea is to put them in the subject line, surnames in UPPER CASE and include town or village if possible. Putting Family Interests or using the reply button to the message I posted up asking for research interests is not advisable as a lot of people see this and do not open the email. But put the surname up and this will generate more interest as others may be researching the same name. And please remember if somebody sends you info then be courteous and thank them, either on or off list. It shows that you appreciate what they have done. Remember this is your list and its not just family history that can be posted up but anything that is related to Hampshire. And if you have a family or Hampshire related website that others may find interesting post a link to it as well. Chris and Caroline List Adminstrators
Will this liven the list up? I doubt it, but here goes anyway. I am always looking for anyone with an interest in the BRYANT, BRIANT or MIST families with origins in Fordingbridge, Godshill, Woodgreen or thereabouts. Waiting 'patiently'.... Ian (in Oz.)
Seems 'my' Andrew WINTER's are determined to keep me busy!! Still trying to find the burial place of Andrew WINTER who died in an accident with a train in June 1900 near Fareham. He was living at Victoria Road, Eastleigh Park, (whether that means Fareham or is an earlier name for Eastleigh I have no idea) Andrew was married to Fanny (EMMETT) she died in 1911. I would like to find out if Fanny was also living at that address in 1900 or in the next couple of years, and if there were any children. The 1891Census has them as single people at their parents homes, possibly visiting and/or enumerator error. Thanks Bev
Still looking for the deaths of Andrew and William WINTER (born 1829/30 Durley) last seen in Barracks at Plymouth Devon in 1851 not found on the 1861 Census. Thanks Bev
