    3. Hi folks Can anybody help on these transcriptions, I know they are not Hampshire but there are some learned people on these lists!! LOL What I need are the locations which are both in Wales, for a friend and I cannot find them anywhere. Chris On the 1851 Census Ellin Jones was living in Caernarvonshire but born in "Billoulg Shireswerby". In 1861 a person of the same name living in Denbighshire was born in "Belermoly Shropshire". I think they are the same person. I have looked at both images and would have transcribed these names in the same way as the Ancestry transcriber has.

    3. A MILLENNIUM OF RECORDS SEMINAL DATES IN ENGLISH GENEALOGY http://www.british-genealogy.com/resources/info/sdates.html Resources for family history research There are many different resources available to family history researchers. It is a fact that you will find relatively few of them on the internet, but nevertheless, the main ones are quite easy to obtain. To begin with, the main resources that you will be accessing are birth, marriage and death certificates, census information, county directories and parish register records of baptisms, marriages and burials. You can go a long way with your research using these. Later you will learn to access other kinds of records. In this section, you will learn all about these resources, how to find them, and which ones to trust. http://www.british-genealogy.com/resources/index.htm Chris

    3. Why We Like The British - FROM BRITISH NEWSPAPERS 1) Commenting on a complaint from a Mr. Arthur Purdey about a large gas bill, a spokesman for North West Gas said, "We agree it was rather high for the time of year. It's possible Mr. Purdey has been charged for the gas used up during the explosion that destroyed his house." (The Daily Telegraph) 2) Police reveal that a woman arrested for shoplifting had a whole salami in her underwear. When asked why, she said it was because she was missing her Italian boyfriend. (The Manchester Evening News) 3) Irish police are being handicapped in a search for a stolen van, because they cannot issue a description. It's a Special Branch vehicle and they don't want the public to know what it looks like. (The Guardian) 4) A young girl who was blown out to sea on a set of inflatable teeth was rescued by a man on an inflatable lobster. A coast guard spokesman commented, "This sort of thing is all too common". (The Times) 5) At the height of the gale, the harbour master radioed a coast guard and asked him to estimate the wind speed. He replied he was sorry, but he didn't have a gauge. However, if it was any help, the wind had just blown his Land Rover off the cliff. (Aberdeen Evening Express) 6) Mrs. Irene Graham of Thorpe Avenue, Boscombe, delighted the audience with her reminiscence of the German prisoner of war who was sent each week to do her garden. He was repatriated at the end of 1945, she recalled. "He'd always seemed a nice friendly chap, but when the crocuses came up in the middle of our lawn in February 1946, they spelt out 'Heil Hitler.'" (Bournemouth Evening Echo) ______________________________________ Two Indians and an Irishman were walking through the woods. All of a sudden one of the Indians ran up a hill to the mouth of a small cave. "Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!" he called into the cave and listened closely until he heard an answering, "Wooooo! Wooooo! Woooooo! He then tore off his clothes and ran into the cave. The Irishman was puzzled and asked the remaining Indian what it was all about. "Was the other Indian crazy or what?" The Indian replied "No, It is our custom during mating season when Indian men see cave, they holler 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' into the opening. If they get an answer back, it means there's a beautiful squaw in there waiting for us." Just then they came upon another cave. The second Indian ran up to the cave, stopped, and hollered, "Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!" Immediately, there was the answer. "Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!" from deep inside. He also tore off his clothes and ran into the opening. The Irishman wandered around in the woods alone for a while, and then spied a third large cave. As he looked in amazement at the size of the huge opening, he was thinking, "Hoo, man! Look at the size of this cave! It is bigger than those the Indians found. There must be some really big, fine women in this cave!" He stood in front of the opening and hollered with all his might "Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!" Like the others, he then heard an answering call, "WOOOOOOOOO, WOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOO!" With a gleam in his eye and a smile on his face, he raced into the cave, tearing off his clothes as he ran. The following day, the headline of the local newspaper read..... Irish man killed by train in tunnel.

    3. Hi List, What a fool I am!!! My message should have read that I am looking for Samuel and Elizabeth MILLS in 1851 - not Samuel and Elizabeth MASON! They married in Portsea in 1846 - she was born in Guildford (Stoke next Guildford) in Surrey. Must have had one of those "senior moments" yesterday! Best wishes, Linda

    3. Message From: "Linda Smith" I'm trying to research what happened to the LYMPOSS part of my family and it's a bit like pulling teeth!!!!! ~~~~~~~~ Hi Linda Have just had a quick squizz at ancestry.co.uk Only 2 people, both born & residing in Surrey, have the surname LYMPOSS on the 1851 England. However, there were many names in Hampshire with the spelling LIMPUS. Maybe it's worth looking into this variation. A couple of my Van Santens came up as Orasanton & one of my husband's Lightwings was transcribed as Lishtming, so anything's possible! Good luck in your search. Kind regards Maureen, NZ
