Hi everyone! My ancestor, Hannah Taylor GILBERT was born about 1820 Stockbridge Hampshire according to census. There is a baptism at Stockbridge for Hannah Taylor Gilbert, but her parents are Richard Taylor Gilbert and Jane (nee Hoar). Richard and Jane are living in Edmonston London in 1851. He was born Portsea, a retired Coal Merchant about 1778. Baptism entry for Hannah Taylor Gilbert in Stockbridge dated Sept 21 1820 by Rev Richard Taylor Entry is clearly marked to say born February 08 1817 baptised privately Feb 21 1817 On Hannah Taylor Gilbert's marriage cert in 1840 to George Henry TINDALL Kennington Surrey, she stated her father was John GILBERT, hotel keeper. A witness at the marriage was an Elizabeth Sincock GILBERT. An Elizabeth Sinnock Gilbert died 1855 Greenwich on the GRO indexes. I have found a family in the 1851 census of Hackney which seems to be related. John Gilbert 44yrs born Stockbridge Merchant Linen Woollens Mary Ann 47yrs born City of London Mary Ann 20yrs born City of London Emily Taylor 18yrs born Kent Rd, Surrey Clara Taylor 16yrs born Islington MDX John G Gilbert 14yrs born Islington William Hoar 19yrs born Portsmouth Medical Student Elizabeth Hylor 25yrs born Chelsea House Servant I cannot find a marriage for John and Mary Ann Gilbert, but wondering if anyone can check the Stockbridge PRs? It would seem that Hannah Taylor Gilbert might be a tad old to be the child of John, but why would she state her father was John unless, he raised her after her father died etc. Would love to know the connection between these families. Also, another clue is that an Adeline Cross born about 1841 Chatham Surrey (niece) is staying with the John Gilbert family in 1861 census where they are living at Leyton Essex. None of the girls have married by this stage. IGI: Adeline Cross d/o Thomas Cross and Harriet Clara bp 18 March 1841 St Leonards Streatham Also, Emily Taylor Gilbert died Sept Q 1907 Fareham aged 77yrs There is also another John Gilbert living in Stockbridge in 1851: John Gilbert aged 59 gardener born Stockbridge Mary Ann Gilbert wife aged 58 John son unmarried aged 21 Blacksmith Charles son also unmarried aged 17 Ostler Henry so also unmarried aged 14 scholar Can anyone help to sort out these GILBERT families/ I woul dlove to know how they are connected. Thanks for any assistance. Best wishes, Judy Jones.
