Hi everyone, Just spotted this e-mail from the NZSG. They have produced 2 CD's that might be of interest to anybody who had family immigrate to NZ. If you have family that came down under then take a look. Kathy HILL Committee Member Welsh Interest Group http://www.rootsweb.com/~nzsgwig/ e-mail: wignewzealand@yahoo.com.au ------------------------------------- Greetings. About 30 minutes ago we received the new CD Roms that we have produced. 1) 1881 Electoral Roll - first roll in which, subject to residential qualifications, all men, except aliens, were eligible to vote. This is searchable on Surname, given name, occupation and electorate. Price $25.00 (plus $4 postage for overseas delivery. 2) NZ Marriages 1836 - 1956 - This is a combination of the Matching Brides & Grooms project and the pre 1856 Marriages Collection. Its main purpose is to identify the spouse in a marriage and a year of marriage and does not have any details that would be found on a certificate. Price $25.00 (plus $4 postage for overseas delivery) Regards to all Peter Nash Executive Officer New Zealand Society of Genealogists PO Box 8795 Symonds St Auckland Ph: 0064 9570 4248 NZSG - Preserving our past for the future. And a reminder (I send this one out regularly so sorry if you're bored with it) But even if your own ancestors didn't emigrate but had siblings who DID, then if they died after 1876 the death certificate will give their place of birth and parents names, VERY useful (although not always accurate). After 1893 NZ electoral rolls also contain womens' names as they became eligible to vote. Having searched the NZ electoral rolls I would say that if this is something you are interested in then the CD sounds good value as the fiche are arranged first by geographical order, then by electoral division then by surname making them very difficult to search for your own family unless you know where they were living. Hopefully the CD overcomes this problem. The earlier marriages are not too bad to search on the fiche once you get used to the slightly odd layout and the fact that some are not quite in correct alphabetical order! For later marriages (more of them!) I imagine the CD would be very helpful. Don't forget also that some people went out to NZ (and Aus) and came back again so they could have married out there and then show up back in England (I've helped out one lady with this problem) so if you're stuck without a marriage or with a child born in NZ to an English based family it's worth checking out. PS I have no commercial interest in these CDs but they do sound like a good helping hand and worthy of a look Regards Jane -----Original Message----- From: KATHY HILL [mailto:kathysrequests@post.com] Sent: Saturday, 29 October 2005 11:35 p.m. To: HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Ham] 2 CD Roms produced by NZSG in NZ Hi everyone, Just spotted this e-mail from the NZSG.
